AHL hockey
Does anyone follow the AHL (American Hockey League)? The NHL in North America is on strike, so the biggest league playing in North America right now is the AHL. I've been following this league for close to five years now, so the NHL lockout hardly affects me. My team's the Worcester IceCats and my current favorite player's Dennis Wideman.
When I lived in America my local teams was the Bridgeport Sound Tigers they were my fav since they are associated with my fav NHL team the Islanders
Im a die-hard Sharks fan, so i have to follow the Cleveland Barons. It was cool that they had a game here at the Shark Tank. But for minor league hockey, it's about the QMJHL
Go Hartford Wolfpack! (NY Rangers AHL affiliate)
Closest AHL teams out here in the west are way up in Edmonton, or way over in the Peg, so it's near imposible to follow. We have a pretty strong WHL following. And Major Juniors are a decent show. I've gone to a couple games this year, and with 21 of the 32 selectees for the Canadian World Jr. Team coming from the WHL, you know there is some talent over here (and they left off Brule...so it could have been 22)
So, there are a bunch of good teams...and some good hockey....alas London Knights just broke the unbeaten record last night in the 'O'...28-0-2
kinda a lame way to break the record ... a 0-0 tie to Guelph...they need to come out and smash it w/ a 6-0 beat down next game
I guess I should follow the Portland Winterhawks, but honestly I hate driving into the city to go to the 15,000 seat stadium to watch a game with 7000 people atteding, it just seems empty. So, usally I go on overnights to Kelowna, Kamloops, Cranbrook, or Lethbridge games to go to a sold out 5000 seat arena.
Looking forward to World Juniors in Grand Forks...my alma mater
and still the best place I've ever got into a hockey fight
Hopefully after the 2004-05 season, the city of Worcester, MA will still have an AHL team, coz they maybe moving to Peoria, IL after that.
Here's a link to a petition (Long, I know) that'll be delivered to the AHL president and CEO, Dave Andrews (and a few other people in the IceCats/AHL/City of Worcester/etc.. organizations). We're trying to get as many people to sign as possible. It's not hard to sign. All they're asking for is your name, location, and e-mail. We're hoping to have 500 sigs before x-mas.

Minnesota High School hockey > all other forms.
Oh, and the U of Minn isn't too bad either.
To me, high school and college hockey games are much more fun to be at that the pros.

I was just at the Springfield/Worcester game on Sunday 12/26 and the game sucked ass. I drove forty miles, dyed my hair blue, and wrote 'I-C-E-C-A-T-S' on my fingers for this, huh?
The reffing was so shitty, and the AHL refs are bad enough. They practically get their reffing licenses in boxes of Apple Jacks. Thank god it was Curtis Sanford (goaltender for the IceCats) bobblehead night so the night didn't suck total ass. The first 1,000 fans received Sanford bobbleheads and Sanford was signing them after the game.
Chicago Wolves are my team, though they're rather new to the AHL. I used to go to lots of P-Bruins when I lived in Boston and would venture down to Providence. Always lots of good fights!
The one good thing without the actual NHL season is I don't feel bad about veering away from the actual rosters in my PS2 season this year. My Blackhawks are much better with Jeremy Roenick, Tony Amonte, Chris Chelios and Ed Belfour back.
On that comment about Worcester, why would they move to Peoria? There was the Peoria Rivermen, who were there already there & the Blues' minor league team. I'm assuming they may have disbanded after the IHL dissolved?
