anyhow .. i haven't posted a proppa review for any type of party in a while, so i guess this time around i will ..
what can be said? this was hands down probably one of the most anticipated parties of the year. whether you're a Tiesto fan or not, one cannot doubt that this DJ brings about huge attention when he's in town, the hype leading up to this night was flat out off the hook..
the night started off with my friend Peter (Raverfriendly) and Craig swinging by my place around 9:15pm to pick me up. by the time we got to the Docks it was almost 10 PM and cars were litterally queuing up for parking spots everywhere. the queue to get into the club stretched all the way down Polson St. spotted HardcoreTrancer, his sister, and Speedy2k aka. Tiesto while waiting in line. the wait to get inside at this point was about 20-25 mins or so , but the worst was yet to come.
when we finally got inside, the club was already filling up pretty nicely and Sean Miller had taken the decks and did a fine job to set the tone. the free Revs they were handing out started the night off nicely. it seems as if there was only one coatcheck in the club this night (the one located in the sideroom), as the lounge was being used as a chill out area unlike it was during Fat Boy Slim's set there according to rabbitjoker. i was later informed by Wurm that the 2nd floor had a coatcheck, but by then it was completely full. the coatcheck line in the side room was horrendous as it stretched all the way to the patio entrance. spotted a few other TAs in line behind us and waited with LadyLotus and her friend Peter. by the time we got into the actual coatcheck room another crowd of people formed near the coatcheck tables. the entire process took somewhere between 1 hr - 1.5 hrs before we were finally able to get our coats checked. what i don't understand is that they knew this event was gonna sell out but there was no systematic way of making people queue in the club and inside the coatroom which created a huge mass of bodies all pushing to get into the coatcheck room. anyhow, i tried to forget about that bad experience quickly once i got outside as i had been eagerly waiting to party after my Rev buzz was killed in that process.
the Docks itself was decorated very nicely. Project Orange and all the other promoters did a good job of deckin the place out. i'll let the pictures do the talking once ppl here start posting some. by the time we got out of the coatcheck room it was about 12:30am and Sean Miller was still on the decks. needless to say this caused us to miss the pre-meet. the club at this point was beyond rammed especially the area in front of the DJ booth and on the raised podium. Tiesto came on around 12:45am if i remember correctly. He openned with Way Out West - Killa which just about set the entire club crazy. spent the first 1.5 hrs of his set infront of the right side area of the booth with Pete, Craig and chanoa. needless to say the club was so packed at this point that it became almost unbearable standing there. it was pretty much Guvesque in some instances where i was constantly being pushed aside by people trying to walk thru the crowd or while dancing. i'm not gonna go ramble off about this, because quite honestly i've experienced much worse. most of the clubs i hit up in Europe were just as bad if not worse in terms of overcrowding. aside from that it wasn't as if most of us didn't expect the place to be rammed to the tits given the fact that the show had sold out days in advance.
anyhow, good sense got the best of us eventually and we decided to wander the club in hopes of finding other TAs around. we eventually made our way to the back area closest to the entrance where we saw HardcoreTrancer and his sister as well as Speedy2k again. dnmr soon joined us along with Carney, tha_broad, and jester. the vantage point at this position was actually pretty good since we had ample space to dance and we could clearly see Tiesto. i only wish they put him on the stage for this event since there were so many areas of the club where he was completely invisible when looking at certain angles.
we eventually made our way to the front left area of the club where most of the TAs seem to hav gravitated given the fact that there was plenty of space to dance there. again unfortunately at this angle Tiesto was barely visible and one had to move towards the center of the dancing area to see him. fortunately by around 5am parts of the club actually started clearing up and more dancing space was soon available.
left around 6:30am, because one of our rookies Craig was tired. his first time partying. his observations and sums of his first experience were actually quite interesting and i'll get into it later on another post.
lastly, for those who wanna cut to the chase, here's a more specific breakdown:
Tiesto
- Most of the stuff he played was pretty expected. Lots of tracks off his Just Be album, as well as Parade of the Athletes (which i honestly love), and tracks from Tiesto in Concert II. I'm not really a trainspotter so i won't go into details about everything he dropped. but a few classics were dropped throughout the night, maybe not as much as i would have hoped, but he did do a decent job in terms of keeping it on. overall i would say that his set got me moving through most of the night. there were some dragging moments, but at times he did manage to pick it back up nicely. mixing i thought was decent. it's hard to compare this set to others given the fact that the last time i saw him was in Berlin and in the UK this summer, where he played a devistatingly hardass set esp. at Love from ABove. i didn't expect that type of a set, but what he played was pretty much what i expected for a North American appearance. did he use his 6 hours to the most of his potential? i really can't say, but simply put i wasn't too disappointed at what i heard.
i give it an 8.0

organization
wasn't the greatest. staff finally got the idea about halfway into the night when they started regulating the crowd into the coatcheck room. by then it was a little too late. good thing i got my jacket out before the mad rush when Tiesto finished.
i give it a 6.5
crowd
this is a highly sensitive topic for some, and i know that some of you will probably post that there was a high gino prescence on this night. but again, it's not as if you don't expect to see this kinda stuff. moreover, what does it matter when the end result is the popularization of EDM among all types of people. in all honestly the crowd was very energetic. Dutch flags, Tiesto banners, Tshirts, etc. could be seen everywhere. i even recall seeing some Dutch girls speaking Dutch in the coatcheck room which got me thinkin wtf. i can't compare the crowd to the last time he was at the docks for the goldclub event, but basically everyone who was there was there for pretty much one reason: Tiesto. whether they were fans for the last 4 years or because they heard his track playing on Z103.. i found the crowd to be far better than some crowds i've seen at the Guv on a special event night.
was also nice to see all of the different TOTA crews mixing and mingling. just goes to show you what great a community we've all been able to help build here which in no short order helps make the party experience all the better!

did i hav fun? yes. was it worth the $40 i paid to get in? yes. would i do it again? yeah!
and i think in the end that's all that really matters.
except for sleep , which i think i will go do now ..

Well i'm definitely glad I made it out to this party. It had been ages since my last one (PVD last november if i'm not mistaken)...
Suprisingly, I feel pretty good right now considering I've had less than 5 hrs sleep. I'm sure i'll crash at some point tonight.
On to Tiesto...he played a pretty decent set. Harder than i imagined though. Considering I haven't kept up with what he's been playing over the last year, i found myself not recognizing a lot of the tracks till well after 3am. I guess Em's gonna be mad since we were talking on the way home that he might play Gouryella & Endless Wave and that we were going to miss it 
Sure enough, it was played after we left. haha Favourite track of the night. Yahel - Voyage! Wasn't expecting him to play it tonight.. but sure enough, he did as we were leaving!
I'm glad to meet a lot of the TA's. Suprisingly, i've been on TA for over 4 years and only had met some of you guys!..Big thanks to Emery for introducing me to some of them!!!! Awesome night man!
The negative, coat check!! What was up with that. After a smooth entrance into the club, was stuck in Coat check for well over 1hr..closer to 2. Absolutely rediculous, but i wasn't going to let that ruin the night! Finally got out and headed near the booth were it was crowded as expected, but later on in the night, I found solace near the back. Overall, the Docks wasn't crowded as it could have been...so good job on not overselling the event!..

The set was quite good, but wtf is wrong with The Docks, they can't have more than 2 people working the coat checks for a huge number of people. And even then there was no line, it was more like a a lot of people trying to squeeze through one door at the same time.
Not a bad show at all. Tiesto played a good range of music but didn't bring out the classics till after 6am. Like "Yahel - Voyage", which I've been dying to hear in a club for years. That was one of the highlights of the night. Also hearing Adagio for String on the docks system was nice. Music was decent for the first 5 hours and nicely laid out. I just wish there was more epic stuff befor I left. {;p ...since I like that old school trance. Well I left before he was finished 6:30 so I'm interested to hear about when he finished and what he spun. Please fill in the details.
Only negatives for the night was the coat check and high number of people walking through the crowd instead of dancing. Also what was with that eleveated thing in the middle of the main room. With people standing there it blocked the view for everyone behind. Alright... enough complaining.
Pluses were good tunes, a decent vibe, and the nice cold air blown on the middle of the dance floor. Take care all. Catch ya at the next gig.

whaaaaaaaaaat a night.. fantastic.. to say the least.. a bit too overcrowded i think.. but it wasnt that bad
great to see alll the familiar faces again although i only think i saw about 20 % of the names listed in the roll call.. i unfortunately missed the meet up at 11:30pm waiting for my ticket to arrive with oleshka. One he came we began drinking in his car with his friends, what a treat, and got in just in time for tiesto ..
tiesto was godly.. no doubt about it.. very very nice set.. no train wrecks very clean.
tiesto once again threw his earphones at the end of the set.. i saw 3 guys scraping for it i think they each got a piece of it too

I am SO dead right now....2 exams tomorrow (monday) so I'm gonna pass out for a bit and write a proper review when I actually wake up...this was hands down one of the best parties of the year!!! This and Armin on the boat will go down in history as the best parties in TO by FAR!

10/10 for the Party
What a night!!!
Me and my buddy got into the linup at aroung 11:30. By 12:00 I was in the club, tried to figure out what to do with coat and the solution was pretty simple, we just stuck the coats behind the sofa's on the second floor. No line up, no mess.
Rushed down to the main room, Sean Miller was still on the decks, tried to get myslef good space right in front of the booth, boy it was not easy. IT WAS PACKED, but nicely pucked, not too much pushing.
Tiesto went on and started off with an awesome tune and span awesome all the way till the end. Mixing sounded very good to me, the TUNAGE was simply unbelivable. I was expecting it to be much softer, cheesier, etc. Tiesto span awesome banging tune after awesome banging tune after awesome banging tune. Some of the songs were completely new to me. After 5 o'clock I had a feeling that tiesto was gonna wrap it up. My feet felt sore and I was getting tired. Than suddenly at some point lotta people left, there was so much room to dance and Tiesto started dropping insane classics: Endless Wave, Yahel, Goryella, Universal Nation. I felt new charge of energy and jumped all the way to the end.
In the end Tiesto through the headphones and the end up in my hands. Well, not only mine, the other 7 guys managed to grab them also. LOL, I got tackled down to the floor holding headphones in my hands and sudenly somebody pulled the wire, it snapped off, the people realized that Headphones wont be in one piece anymore and started pulling everything they could. Headphones shreded in about a second. I ended up on the floor with bleeding empty hand. Oh well, next time.
Exactly same thing happened with vynyl that tiesto threw. It ended up in lots of little pieces.
In the end had to ask the sucurity guy to dig my coat from under the sofa since the top floor was closed. The guy was extremely polite and he got me the coat within 15 minutes.
Summary:
Tiesto: 10/10 - 7 hours set!!!
Venue Sound: 9/10 - Very impressive but at some points the crowd was louder.
Venue Light: 9/10 - I loved the plazmas and the content; the lighting guys were working hard also.
Venue Heat Factor: 6/10 - The cooling system was awesome but it was not used from 2 - 7:45. It was getting bad.
Venue Personnel: 10 / 10 - for me - I did not check in my coat, I just hide it.
Crowd: 8/10: Upside: Jumping TA's, the guy on dope that was fighting with his coat for about 2 hours and won, and the girl with guy sniffing cocaine from the right of me. They were just halarious. Downside: Why taking your shirt off? I mean, it was hot at some points, but hey...
Party: 10/10 - 45 bucks for 7 hrs of Tiesto plus @ the docks make it worth 200.
So will anybody be calling the fire marshall on the docks now?
Just wondering.
Say it with me.... Clubs + big names = money to be made + big crowds

Tiesto blew the roof off of the Docks!
I had some high expectations for the dutchman going into the party, and i can safely say he did not disappoint.
Some parts of his 7 hour set did get a little boring, however overall it was a great set.
LOVED THE CLASSICS he dropped in the last hour and a half! that last bit alone was worth the coat check hassle + admission

to top it off, i ended up with the better part of the broken headphone tiesto threw [the top part where the autgraph is]
wish i had the whole thing though...
anyways..all in all sick party now i need some sleep.

Definitely a good release to all the stress of the week for me. It's been pretty painful as of late, so letting it all loose was awsome. When I got to the club I was feeling pretty sick, didn't know if I was even going to make it. But the vibe of the crowd and the great many amazing TA's kept me movin along with Tiesto ofcourse. Kudos to Chanoa for kicking my ass! Met lots of new people and old it's always fantastic partying with you guys. To all the TA's I missed seeing, there's always next time.
Where's your camera? Was the question of the night, I didnt bring the big one cuzz I just wanted to dance, however I did take my little S230. It doesn't even compare however, so I think I took maybe one or two shots. The last time I danced like that was J00F at BOA.

Well, it's nights like those that remind me why I still claim to be a hardcore Tiesto fan. Yes, he has recently ventured into commercial cheese at times and his attitude has changed somewhat, but the guy can still deliver when he wants to.
I had a glorious time...came within 6 inches of palming that record he threw in, but then the animalistic retards took over and smashed it to bits. Same with the headphones...the guy who got his hand on it first was literally mauled. Ease up people.
Other than the coat check debacle, shit all over the toilet seats in the men's washroom, the disgusting heat and the expected "pushers and bumpers" (as I call them), it was a pretty good fucking night.
I hung out at the back most of the night, good view...less crowded, met some people who frequent the Tiesto forum. Two guys from Holland came down...crazy guys...they had been in Montreal the previous night and hadn't had any sleep in 60 hours.
As for Tiesto's set, it was rock solid. Some of the techy trance he played didn't do much for me at the beginning (no idea what those tracks were since I've been lazy in keeping track of new shit), but for me, he hit his stride around 2 am. I can't believe he dropped Ambush - Everlast from Magik 4. My friend had to restrain me from fleeing the coatcheck line to go nuts near the front. All the tracks from Just Be and Parade of the Athletes were predictable, but I still enjoyed them. The best part was by far the last hour or so though. I got much closer and got some interaction with Tiesto, which is always fun. Voyage, Airtight, Gouryella, Endless Wave, Universal Nation...holy fuck that was some great shit. I was so hot, tired and sore by that point, but I couldn't resist those tracks. Since I missed out on the 99 and 2000 days (live) I've always wanted to see Tiesto drop the tracks from the era in which I think he was best, and now that wish is fulfilled.
Overall, 8.5/10 for the night. The set was exactly what I expected we'd get from Tiesto at his best these days...the only deductions being the negative points I mentioned. I think Tiesto shouldn't bother with the Guv anymore...he gives much more INSPIRED performances at the Docks in my opinion. So I might just avoid his future Guv appearances.
