The line between hardhouse and trance is sometimes pretty thin..Sandstorm is definite hardhouse tho, but if you listen to Darude's other songs such as Burning on the same album, they're trance...

Hardhouse kicks fuckin ass tho!!!!!

Fergie, Lisa Lashes, Tony De Vit, Knuckleheads.. all good Hard House.......

i never thought of Darude - Sandstorm being HardHouse.....to me its Trance with a very hard sound ....but i dont know if i would call it HardHouse..cuz it still have some trance vibes in it....but now a days you cant really tell what genre songs are alot of songs have little bit of everything in it..but Darude - Sandstorm most people i talk to put it in with the Trance catagorie with a Hard influnece to it something like HardTrance??...if there something like that??? but hey i might be wrong

Darude - Sandstorm is a hard sound? I think hardtrance is much harder than this song. What's the difference between trance and hardhouse?

Peace!

YEZy

Posted by Dj Furee on Oct-30-2000 02:28:

damn it's hard to explain, hard house is essentially house with a harder beat.. hehe some explanation huh!! you know what as you listen to more hard house (like anything from the tidy trax label)you see the difference... it's very close to trance but it doesn't have a lot of the techno'ish sounds .. I dunno to me trance is a blend of techno and house and hard house is harder house with less techno... grrrrr sorry peepz I'm no help

Posted by Kurve on Oct-30-2000 02:36:

House usually has a differnt bass and beat sound then trance... i beleive..i still dont think Darude - Sandstorm and Storm - Time to burn are HardHouse...!! thats my opinion i heard hardhouse songs and they dont sond like those songs ...but ohh well...who cares what theya re ...they are both very good songs so ill just leave it at that!

My favourite hard house track by far would be "Timo Maas - Ubik", the beat in that song is sick! And i still like "Danny Tanaglia - Music is the Answer". Thats what I think is HH

Posted by Dj Furee on Oct-30-2000 07:24:

For real eh??? I was arguing with someone, I thought Timo Maas was hard house too, and the guy thought it was trance so we decided on hard trance.. It's so hard to label everything nowadays, and unfortunately I'm one of those people who like to do it.. I hate it when people call everything techno and everything rave music but other than that it's ok

Posted by t-rob on Oct-30-2000 12:34:

Timo Maas' style is definately hardtrance, when you want true Hardhouse, try finding livesets of Dave Randall and Yoji Biomechanika!!!! Than you know the true meaning of this style....

Exclamation

Tom Harding is HARDHOUSE

Posted by trancaholic on Oct-30-2000 18:03:

As far as I'm informed House is very much focus on grooves whereas trance is more focus on long build-ups and melody. Techno on the other hand mainly goes for characteristic rhythms and the "hard"-versions stems from "hardcore"-meaning that only hardcore fans seems to like it .
So I'd label something like Delerium as trance, Yves Deruyter as hard-house, Robbie Rivera as house, Stomper vs. Basscar as techno and Timo Maas as hard-trance.
And for Sandstorm...well, that one is just great.

But, generally it's increasingly difficult to put every artist into a labeled box. Take a listen to the special edition of Picotto's album and you'll find everything from chill-out to acid-trance (there's another label for you) and where would you put someone like Sasha?

Posted by Dj Furee on Oct-31-2000 00:55:

Delerium Trance??? yeah right!!!!

Delerium's silence was remixed to be a trance song but Delerium is sooooo not trance!!!!! It's like Sarah McGlauchlan's I Love You song mixed by BT.. Sarah for sure doesn't do trance...

lisa lashes---looking good!!!

Posted by trancaholic on Oct-31-2000 13:44:

I was thinking of the Tiesto remix. Sorry for any inconvenience, but I thought that was obvious from the context.

Posted by Dj Furee on Oct-31-2000 14:09:

I'm sorry I didn't mean to be a bitch, it's just that I used to listen to delerium before they remixed silence which everyone really likes nowadays.. delerium is still cool tho, it's more ambient and experimental type of music.. I found it hard to believe that they became a trance "group" just cuz they got one song remixed, but hey you never know there maybe more to come

Posted by ampburner on Oct-31-2000 15:29:

Angry

What is everyone talking about? you're mixing up everything with everything

If you want to know what a typical trance tune sounds like, listen to something by Tiesto, Johan Gielen, or something similar.

Hardhouse - Tom Harding, Lisa Lashes, Yoji Biomechanika

PS
Darude is definetly trance

PPS
I would call the sasha sound "progressive"

PPPS
And don't forget, not every song has to fit in 1 category...anybody ever heard of the word "crossover"?

PPPPS
I personally don't care what it's called, I just enjoy the music or I don't

grab anything by Mark V and Poogie Bear

Posted by DJ SHY on Nov-01-2000 01:24:

IF YOU WANT HARD HOUSE, TRY ANYTHING BY RICHARD (HUMPTY) VISSION OR BAD BOY BILL!!!

Posted by Morbius on Nov-01-2000 07:09:

I've been reading this conversation for a while, and here's my $.02

Trance = stuff you find on trance nation cds, can range from vocal and melodic to stuff like timo maas (what would you call him? dark trance? tech trance?) And as ampburner said, stuff johan geilen, tiesto and so forth spin.

hard trance = same sound but harder

hard house = lisa lashes, bk, fergie, mauro picotto, cortina, etc.... NOT darude

IMHO richard humpty vission isn't hard house, at least not from what I've heard of him (Shut the F**k up and dance)
That sounds like a bunch of assorted vocal house and dubbed stuff, definitely different from the above producers.

As for progressive, excuse me if I'm wrong, but isn't most trance music by definition progressive?
(as in starts with 1-2 instruments and builds up, then has a break and climax, etc)

Talking

All this genre shit sometimes confuses me too.. I hear a track and it falls into 2-3 categories sometimes.. Those are the tracks I like.. You guys have NO CLUE how much crap I listen to every week.. utter garbage..

anyways.. since I'm in Toronto, for some reason whenever I think of Hard House I think of Chicago Booty House & Bad Boy Bill.. I dunno... but UK Hard House has a distinctive sound...

As long as we all sorta know what everything falls into we're ok..and sometimes I make up a genre as I go along.. then I get the emails from the music gurus telling me I'm wrong.. those are fun
