I don't have a link to any sample and I know thats a bitch but it can be heard in Carl B's tune "All Day" @ 1:54. It would look like this

X-X-X-X

X=Kick
*= ride or hat sample

it is usally used in this fashion. It gives the hats this very full sound and gives a track some nice high end.

Sorry for being so vague but I don't have a sample.

anyways.. it is a ride cymbal.. also another trick i find helpful is to take an open hi hat and reverse it.. giving the whole hats section a nice boost and makes the sound thicker as well
