-- Tiesto @ World
Tiesto @ World
My first time to World... awesome space. I Love the lay out, the club is first class. Funny how its owned & operated by the wwf. (LOL!)
Tiesto: OMG! Incredible set although a couple of records skipped... So much better than his Gatecrasher set he did for Limelight back in March.
Highlights of the set: Delerium's Silence (ofcourse
), Urban train to close the party out (sweet!)... but the spotlight of the night for me: Jose Amnesia's The ETERNAL!!!!!
F-ing incredible!! I almost wet myself when he dropped that track. He follwed that up with Ralphie B's Massive. Very nice night indeed.
Just what NYC needed... a break from dark house and a night full of beautiful trance.
His set at Limelight in March was MUCH better. This was a typical Tiesto set. I trainspotted the entire set w/the exception of 3 tunes.
Tracklisting:
Flesh (Tiesto remix)
Yahel- Voyage (tiesto remix)
Utah Saints- Lost Vagueness (Oliver lieb main mix)
Insigma- Open ur eyes
Salt Tank- Eugina (Tiesto remix)
Riva- Stringer
Wind Sider- Hide U on Flight 643 followed by Flight 643 (Orginal remix)
PPK- The Resurrection
CJ Bolland- The Prophet
Jose Amnesia- The Eternal
Fire & Ice- Sounevir De Chine
Rammstein- Ich Will (PVD Remix)
Pulser- Cloudwalking
Ralphie B- Massive
Balearic Bill - Destination Sunshine (Tisto Power mix)
##Encore## (as predicted)- Urban Train
The system is WAY TOO LOUD!
How long did he perform for?
Tiesto is pathetic because he played 90% of the tracks he did here in Montreal & Toronto ...

Why was he better in March??? I knew every song he played at Slimelight also, several which he played on Saturday.

Twilogoddess (nice nick btw), I have to disagree with you... (remember that this is all a matter of personal opinion). I mean I understand where you're coming from... I trainspotted at least 90% of his songs as well, but that's why I loved it so much. I'm getting tired of listening to b-sides and obscure dark progressive tunes all night. If I want to listen to a set mostly comprised of tunes I've never heard before, I would go see DT. I wanted to hear familiar, sweet trance tunes and that's why I went to see Tiesto.
I agree Silence should be retired... (I still like the tune, honestly) but it is sort of expected of him to spin it. Anyway, he dropped one of my all time fav trance tunes: Jose Amnesia's The Eternal (Pulser Remix) and that just made my night. When was the last time you've heard a good trance set? It's been a while for me.... Last time I heard sweet trance tunes was in Ibiza (Godskitchen with Ferry Corsten & Fergie 9/4). In NYC? Probably back in March @ LL's GC night, when Tiesto & Bond came.... which btw, I thought Bond kicked major ass and Tiesto was sort of a let down after his set...
The World is a nice space...its a pity that the WWF of all people own it. The vibe I thought was surprisingly pretty decent. It was definitely much better than SF's or EXIT's!! I stayed away from the dance floor (after 2am) because it was so loud down there...plus there was this crazy bitch dancing like a maniac that kept kicking me in the leg and stepping on my feet! I had friggin foot prints on my leg! I stayed in front of the left bar upstairs after that and the music sounded great from there. No ringing ears the next morning

Hmmm...TwiloNYC...you say PvD is a trance God...no doubt he spins some prog stuff in his sets...much more then I heard Tiesto play...and yet you seem to be hating the prog sound....weird. I personally don't want to hear all of one type of genre in a given nite. I like the dj to mix it up...that's why I luv PvD...he combines many diff genres and takes you for a ride. I agree with TG...the two yr anniversary was off the freakin hook...
The crowd and vibe at World was disappointing...felt more like SF then Twilo....I still miss that vibe at Twilo...it's gonna be hard to get that somewhere else.
WOAH Ok guys, maybe I'm being a little unclear... so before anyone else start picking away at everything I say.....let me clear this:
I went to see Tiesto for a trance set and just that. I didn't and wont ever expect to hear a progressive set from him. He drops a lot of the same stuff all the time. so what? I still like the stuff he spins and would like to hear it in a club. Thats why I went to ticketmaster and bought tickets. I have a shit load of his sets but listening to it at home or in my car is a lot different than being in a club with thousands of peeps and actually dancing to it. So, I had a good time.... shoot me.
Kytracid: I am not comparing or bashing DT (It would literally be comparing apples to oranges), I really like his stuff. I think he is an amazing talent and there's no doubt about it. He spun at some of the best parties I've been to. But lets face it, like you said he plays 'NY Style House'... which means what? NY has been all about House. Its refreshing to go see someone who's not afraid to drop some cheese (which I love very much). Its a nice break from the darker stuff I've been hearing for the past couple of years in NYC.
twilochik: I'm sorry where did you get that I hate progressive sounds? PvD is still my fav DJ. I've travelled all over the place to see this guy (Boston, Ibiza, Miami...DC in Nov!) since Twilo's closing. I dont think he is about progressive sounds...he is more about energy, pure, kick-your-ass-from-beginning-to-end energy... and you'll hear PvD on any given night drop tunes that are more than 8 months old.... so what? I love when he drops old tracks like Cream, Fragile or Namastai. Its refreshing to hear old records dusted and spun sometimes. I have to agree the PvD's 2yr anniversary at Twilo was probably the best party ever....
oh btw, if you want vibe like that of Twilo....goto Ibiza and check out Space or Amnesia.... forgetaboutit! I love We love sundays @ Space!! The best vibe anywhere!!!!
TG: How long were you in Ibiza?
T -NYC...sorry I must have misunderstood your previous comment about "dark obscure progressive tunes". Personally, this is how I like a set to be...I like to hear new stuff where I'm turning to people and saying...WTF is this song its sikk! And then I luv to hear an occassional old song..stuff that brings back good memories and makes me and the crew go crazy. But I don't want to hear a set of all old stuff. I like it mixed up. Unfortunately I found Tiesto's set to be rather too old...too predictable. I had a great time..but he's no PvD.
And I'm trying to work on getting myself to Ibiza...but there are a couple of things that prohibit me at the moment. But I'm def going to DC in Nov! He definetely is full of energy and that's what I luv about him...but there's no denying that he too spins some slightly dark stuff. I find that by him doing it..it enhances the uplifting stuff he plays even more....how can a dj take one on a journey without going from dark to happy...obscure to anthem...without one or the other the set is lacking...and I feel PvD is one who can combine those in a great arse kicking set! Ahhh Nov is too long to wait! lol

| Originally posted by Twilogoddess I was in Ibiza for 27 days. The vibe & energy at Twilo is unparalleled. Godskitchen @ Amnesia was fun but the high cielings ruin it. Twilo's low cielings made the music & lights intense & intimate. Space was my Fav club in Ibiza. I Love Sundays at Space was sick. I LOVED the music @ Technoclub but there was no vibe or energy at all! Regardless I had sick night...non stop dancing. |
I saw Tiesto at World and I loved it. I have seen Tiesto a lot of times (LimeLight, France, London, Texas, and Germany) I every Tiesto CD ever made and over 60 live sets on CD. Anyway I keep hearing people dis on Tiesto for his performance at World and I dont know why. Ok everyone keeps talking about he messed up on Silence and that he keeps playing it in every set, wel from what I remember when he stopped the music during Silence so everyone can sing along with him and Sarah McLachlin there where very few who even sang along and the majority of the ones who did barely even knew the words to Silnce (its RAGE not RAIN u morons) so obviously some people havent heard Silence enough or ever at all and maybe thats why he played it. That track is like a trademark of his, its like when or if u go to a Guns N Roses concert u know and expect them to play Welcome to the Jungle, even though it is played out and we all know it they play it cus it is a track that is almost a foundation of what they have become. If you people hate Tiestos tracklists all the time well maybe u should buy him out for a party give him your tracklists and have him spin what u want, this way u will be happy. If u ask me I dont think Tiestos track decisions where all that bad at all I just think the crowd suked, I mean come on a couple of people didnt even know that the last track he played before Urban Train was Cloudwalking. And if u are tired of hearing all the same tracks then just dont go see Tiesto anymore , let the real fans that enjoy all his tracks go see him, I wouldnt care if he played the same tracklist as Live at Dance Terminal..and thats old, but what do I know ?maybe I am jus a REAL fan of his and not someone who compllains about it all the time. Also I heard someone say that maybe Tiesto should worry more about his tracks then dancing on stagewell from all the times I have seen Tiesto I always loved the parts where he would come from behind the booth and get into it with the crowdit shows that he is feeling the music as much as we are and not jus playing tracks to make people happy , which is what a lot of u people seem to want. Tiesto plays what makes the crowd feel alive and what makes him feel alive. Look at when he played The Prophet he walked out from behind the booth all calm and raised his arms from his sides up until the beat topped and then he closed his eyes and bit his lip then right with the song and other Tiesto heads he said "COME WITH ME"dont u understand that he is so alive when this happens and he wants u all to know itI mean when he did that I felt all his energy come out and it made the night all that betterI would much rather have Tiesto come close to the crowd and shed his vibe then have him sit alone in a booth and not make any contactthats one of the reasons I love Tiesto. Also I have heard people say that Tiesto has become "big-headed" or that he thinks he is the "man" ARE U ALL NUTS..Tiesto is the one Dj that will always make time for his fans alwayshe will take pictures and sign all night long.he did am interview once where someone asked ghim what he thinks about people getting his music from sites like Napster for free and he said that it did not bother him because he knows its hard to get his stuff in stores in the US and that the money is not important to him just aslong as he can reach people with his music..now go ask Oakie or PVD that question and I bet they will say they want tehre moneyespecially Oakie..also at World that night a friend of mine who went to see Tiesto in Montreal recently tried to get an autographed record from Tiesto but wasnt able to.so at World I saw Tiesto point to my friend and then my friend pointed back to him.then all of a sudden Tiesto walks out from the booth with a signed record and kneels down and personally hands my friend the autographed record and shakes his hand.no if u ask me that makes Tiesto a CLASS ACT.this DJ who travels all over the world non stop playting crowds of thousands actually remembered one fan from Montreal who wanted a signed record and gave that fan what he wanted.that jus shows how in touch Tiesto is with his fans..look Tiesto can only play so many tracks in his time allowed he tries to pick what he feels will energize the crowd..he puts in old tracks for the fans who remember Magik 1 , he puts in the famous tracks like Silence for the ones who dont know him well but have heard him before and want to hear more, and he puts new tracks in for the people who need more and more, he can only make so many people happy and I think he does a great job at it.i mean personally my favorite live set he ever did was Live at Energy 12.31.99 but I cant expect him to play it for me everytime I go see himI wish I could but I cant.i would also like for once to hear him play Allure - No More Tears live for me but he hasnt.but to be honest it really makes no difference cus every set he does I am pleased with because I am a REAL Tiesto fan and not someone who jumped on the Tiesto band wagon when he came out with SummerBreeze.enjoy him ot dontu all have your opinions but just dont sit there and say Tiesto is not all that good or that Tiesto is falling off..he does his best to please as many as he can and I am never let down.MAGIK RULES !!
Why don't Tiesto and his ilk spin THESE songs?
You guys are all moaning how it's the "same old anthems."
Well, there are so many great anthems that aren't all that old, and NOBODY spins them, how sad is that?????
Subtle by Design - Sirius
Warlock - Planet P
Lady Tom - Loops & Tings
Major League - Wonder
Sunscreem v. Push - Please Save Me
Lightforce - Join Me
Sisko - Light over Me
Moni B - Stripped
D-Mention - Daydream
DJ Elb - Relieve My Pain
Sector 5 - Nostradamus
....
etc. the list goes on and on! I'd love to hear Tiesto play at least one of these, but he prefers some stupid "Souvenir de Chine" which doesn't EVEN FUCKIN COME CLOSE to these great anthems of 2000! Or "Silence" that everyone's had enough of.
I'm glad to hear he dropped Jose Amnesia - the Eternal, that's a good tune. More of that, and we're in business again
MAYBE U SHOULD HAVE READ MY POST THAT IS RIGHT BEFORE YOURS...STOP COMPLAINING ABOUT TIESTO...EVERYONE FELL IN LOVE WITH HIM FOR HIS GREAT TRACK SELECTIONS....LOVE HIM OR LEAVE HIM BUT DONT EVER SAY HE IS SLIPPING....MAGIK RULES
