Do your mates like trance?

None of my mates like trance. It's annoying! They all like the rnb n pop stuff. I like put the latest track on my mp3 player and they just laugh at it. It's weird because i have noticed that nearly all the people i have met don't like trance, they all like the rap songs. Have you had that experience?

Yes.

And why is this thread number 64744654854385843 about this subject?

Posted by TOR on Dec-13-2004 20:36:

two of them do. they're not as addicted as me, but they quite like it

i have a lot of "acquaintances" though that are into trance, most of them i met through TA

Posted by Sjagga on Dec-13-2004 20:41:

Hmm, one of em is as addicted to it as i am, the rest like it but dont love it or something...

Posted by fitom tiel on Dec-13-2004 20:47:

yeah, it's sort of something we grew into together.

My best friend likes trance, thanks to me.

Other friend, which I'm not very good with (because we don't see each other often) likes trance, but he also likes commertial eurodance crap from MTV and viva.

Another friend, same as the one above, likes more techno and less trance.

And that's about it.

Posted by Ariah on Dec-13-2004 20:49:

i have a friend who's a little into it, he gets it all from me though.

And i have another one who's really into cheesey dance like dj sammy, pulsedriver, rocco, drunkenmunkey & lasgo etc. He prefers the cheese with a pumping bass. BLAH

search b4 post....
N e way only one of them listens to Prog.
he likes Digweed and Sasha....

Posted by DarkFall01 on Dec-13-2004 20:58:

My best friends here in school hate it, but do like some of the psy I spin, especially Astrix - Fire

Other than that, the rest listen to either breaks, prog trance or prog house.

I got all of my friends hooked.

...including my Mom. Now that's just weird.

Posted by trance-ecj on Dec-13-2004 21:10:

"techno" in america is, for the most part, a dirty word

it's the annoying shit that does the same thing over and over again...and everyone thinks techno = dj sammy and darude

but thanks to me, a few people have actually been getting into other styles, mainly trance

my best friend has always had an open mind, and loves my trance and mix cd's i give him...kinda cool

another guy heard my latest mix and said he listened to it 6 times in one day...never heard anything like that before

so, people are startin to figure out there's diff stuff out there than whats overplayed here...but most people i know hate it

So who cares

so yeah, none of my friends listen to it either. But the best way to get them to atleast appreciate it, is to play it NON-STOP. They might give it a little more respect if they see how much it means to you.

A couple of my friends, everytime we talk they always comment on how much I love my trance, and when they see how much I love it, it opens them up to listen to it more.

They are always trying to press thier hip-hop culture on me. I'm fucking past that! Then I think alot of my friends are younger than me and don't know anything. LOL.

Don't be so desperate. You have a chance, you live in England.
There are so many DJ's and also especially skilled trance producers.

As a french guy, i'd like to say that "trance" is kinda a totally unknown word in France
... but things could be changing... some of my friends (thanks TA for meeting them ) begin to organize some parties with trance in it
... but common people don't even like electronic music in general, and it's hard to change this of course.

heh

Hell no, Im back in my home town for the holidays and I have to pretend that I like alternative and classic rock music or I will be stereo typed(drugy)....it's great...not..

Same here.

Any EDM out there is "techno" for people that don't listen to real EDM.

guess this is a pretty normal seat for the common listener.

Again, same here, except for my friends don't enjoy even cheese. :P

Most Rock N' Roll artists flamboyantly do drugs.

The drug aspect of any genre can be compared with EDM, IMO. Rap, Rock, fuck it--even country.

In my opinion, drug use is more vagrant in Rock and Rap then any other genre.

my best friend is into sasha, tiesto, but thinks pvd is boring. None of them are as addicted as me though.

Posted by D-res on Dec-13-2004 22:58:

i have one friend who likes it but he pretty much likes cheese. im starting to get him into better stuff like chicane but its hard...

I have another who likes the same stuff i do...

Posted by woscar on Dec-13-2004 23:23:

Everything is TRANCE!

For most people I know, every form of EDM they hear gets labeled as Trance, no matter how hard I try to educate them. It's useless!

Posted by RIPassion on Dec-13-2004 23:41:

I have a good friend who was always sick of any kind of music (and i must say, living in Dallas as a kid, so was I) until I discovered the wonders of trance/house/whatever else with some real meaning. The rest of my friends are too closed minded to like music. (they may pretend to like some rap here and some rock there, but I know they know their 'love' fake I swear, even I like rock more than they do. It's so sad, they could be such creative people if they got into any music, but they just keep pretending )

Music in america is all about popularity; go figure

Posted by dj douglas on Dec-13-2004 23:53:

i have the same problem. they all love hip hop and rnd and cant stand even the most mainstream of trance songs. fukin frustrating as hell. ive managed to meet some people through TA which has been cool.

Posted by Tomas_P on Dec-13-2004 23:55:

some of my friends like certain uber-cheese tunes, they would'nt call it trance though , for them... it's aaaalllll techno baby YEAH!!!

Although i do have some friends who really know what they are talking about when it comes to EDM in general, they know so much that it creeps me out sometimes...

Posted by Camwin on Dec-14-2004 00:02:

One of my mates are into trance, i got him into it about a year and a bit ago, he started off lovin the cheese now he's growen a lot more, he's not quite there yet but he's appritiating breakdowns and arrangment now. and some of my other mates just like cheese.

Posted by Eddie N MIAMI on Dec-14-2004 03:20:

i still hang with the guy who introduced me to trance back in 99.
Ive gotten a couple of friends into it but theyre just casual listeners, like stuff by tiesto which isnt so hard to listen to,when it comes to rare tracks they just wait for the trance mix cd i make once a year that ive been making every year since 2000 haha.I usually let them know when ferry, pvd etc come to town to go see them and they like it.
I got my girlfriend into it somewhat, she likes southern sun kinda tracks.
The rest still only like hip hop or/and rock.
