I have Technics!!!
Yes, yesterday I bought myself a pair of the 1210 legends and I'm very happy. I was previously on a pair of Soundlab DLP1600 belt drive Satan's arse pieces of shit, and I can tell you the difference is unbelievable.
Only troube is, now I have no money for new tunes...
maaaaaaaaaannnn!!!!
i'm happy (and jelous but mostly happy) for you!!!
dying for a pair of direct drive Technics!!!

he he he...
enjoy!!!

I'm happy and jealous too.
like my new sig? I thought it was appropriate. I'm going to make it smaller though, I realize that it's stretching out the screen
MK II
Good choice, have fun with them !
You bought the best wheels of steel on earth.
Bought mine in 1984 and they're still spinning...
RavingLunatic, can't see the sig picture! Its just a red cross. Maybe it didn't upload properly?
Anyway, my Techs are sweet. Bought them second hand, but the previous owner treated them with a lot of respect and they are in excellent condition - only one very minor scratch on the top metal bit of the tonearm assembly. Got flightcases included, as well! Had to walk back from the shop with them though, about 2 miles. I don't think my shoulders will ever be the same again.
Tis very strange, that you can't see it.
right click on the picture, select properties, and copy the location of the picture. paste it into the address bar. the picture shows up. then hit back in your browser and it shows up here too..
weird.
ah...My techs experienced a minor setback. I had 1300 of the 1550 needed and then BAM! Expenses I hadnt counted on, not im back down to 650 in savings....
So itll be another month...damn numark belt drives r drivin me nuts!!!!!
BTW Brinkster doesnt allow remote linking anymore...so thats why your sig wont show up
yo dude i think i know the source of your problem...
had it also when renewing my avatar...
use photoshop to change the image mode to "rgb mode"...
that shoud do the trick...

Well.. I'm not a photoshop user, I pasted my sig together with microsoft paint.
I found a better place to host my sig.. it's working now.
kewl!!!
thats what matters in the end...

if you take a look at my sig you see my two technics md3's whith a vestax pmc 15 mix and a dual cd player from limit
I used to like Technics a lot, but I have changed my liking of decks. I now prefer Vestax. I know many of you prefer the Technics but the Vestax are so much better as an all round DJ turntable. Okay, I know I'm probably in for an argument here but I would just like to say how Vestax have improved my DJing. Firstly Technics 1200s have been around for ages and all the new 12xx series turntables are still built on the old foundation that took Technics to the top, but the TT's were not originally designed for DJing, where Vestax were. Vestax have up to 60% pitch adjust, too much really, but good for inventive mixes. Technics pitch adjust should be 8% right? But when digitally measured over 100 brand new TT's the pitch adjust is only 6.3% and if you change the calibration on pitch adjust under the platter, bye bye warranty. If you touch the side of your Technics platter it will slow down and when you let go it will speed up past the current pitch adjust for a moment and then rest at the current pitch adjustment, whereas on Vestax it doesn't go past the current pitch speed. Another good feature is the availability to choose how fast or slow the turntables pick up or stop resectively is on the Vestax, where Technics only let you use the on/off switch and start/stop button. And Vestax has a straight tone arm, limiting skating, jumping, skipping and there is no auto-return, which stops embarrasing moments of the tone arm lifting during mixes to the end of the vinyl. However Vestax have no pitch dots, which I believe not to matter as all TT's are properly calibrated during manufacture.
That is only my personal opinion and a few facts I have picked up, I would recomment Vestax also as older Technics 12xx have a click at the 0% pitch adjust.
Hmm.. very interesting.
the pitch adjust is only 6.3% on brand new tech12s? are you sure?
and I can't be positive about the auto return, but I don't think techs do that either. it will run right onto the label if you let it.
some records have a groove to keep it from doing that.
as for straight tone arm, I've heard it keep the needle from skipping, and I've heard it makes it skip.. I don't know either way.
one thing I do know is that a straight tonearm will wear out your records faster. Hip Hop DJs like em for scratching, and obviously don't mind having to buy new records, but for trance mixing, I'd like to keep them sounding their best.
which vestax are you talking about? the new ones, with a plastic base?
I'm going to buy decks, and I am pretty much set on tech12s. for one thing, some DJs have had them for 20 years, and they still work great. Any club or rave that you go to is going to have techs, so you damn well better know how to use them.
Vestax decks, don't have ANY long term testing, because they haven't been used that long.
6.3% pa is correct, even on the m3ds. i dont know about the m3ds but generally on technics the autoresturn is there, it happened to me making a mix tape at my friends, it lifted off at the end of atlantis ita - the good land just as the mix was building in the direction of gouryella - walhalla sounding really bad. about the skipping, it definately does help, and about wearing out records, as far as i know it doesnt make a difference, its the weight of the tone-arm, the cartridges and the stylus that make a difference. hip-hop djs prefer the vestax because of the skipping reduction. and im talking about the pdx2000, (see vestax website http://www.vestax.co.uk/flash/pdx2000.htm). im sure vestax will stand up to the test of time, and im not trying to tell people technics are shit, because they are gr8, and 90% of clubs use them, although vestax have a growing larger section of the market, even though they are slightly more expensive. i just suggest you try both before you buy.
hmm...
so technics has been lying to hundreds of thousands of DJs for 20 years that the pitch control is 8% when it's really 6.3%?
I'm finding that tough to swallow.
I will definitely try out the Vestax before I buy my tech12s.
I tried out some Stanton STR8-80s before, didn't like em, not enough power. it was cool that they spun backwards though, I wish techs did that. I've heard that the STR8-100s have more power than tech12s, and pitch control up to 25%
SL1200 MKII will not have the problems like boy_luke_y2k had when you buy the right element/stylus.
I first had Stanton 500 which is cheap and okay but since I have the 680 I know it makes a big difference.
Straight tonearms are primarily for scratching..now vestax also has another new decks out(not the PDX2000) that has a curved tonearm(better fro trance) the other one is the pdx-8000 Its supposed to be nicer...but I dunno, ill stick with Technics. Vestax can still make my mixer, but not my tables.
Tho if this werent blazing red it might be less of an eyesore
About the carts/stylus, I had Orfoton Concordes Blue, with Elliptical stylus, I did have technics, I like them, they are proven workhorses but there is less control than the Vestax and I am happy I made the switch, I haven't seen the PDX8000 but they sound okay. I just stick to my point of try before you buy. Don't let rumours and reputation influence your decision too much. I had the Technics for about a month and got an upgrade by selling my roland mixer and getting complete Vestax system.
BTW if u wanna check out teh PDX 8000 the only place ive found it is www.HTFR.com It costs like 800 Pounds tho...so

WOW!!!
that PDX8000 is pretty ugly (the color) but other then that, i wouldn't mind having one...

i was considering to buy technics(still am) in the next 5 months...
i still think i'll go for them, maybe any where else in the world the diference (in the price) isn't that much...
but here in Israel as far as i know the prices are in the sky!!!
so i'll either find some kinda cheap good technics (vestax are also welcome) or i'll import...
i'm a newbe to this stuff (TTs) so where should i start?

Thanx heaps boy luke. This will com ein handy when i goto buy mine

STR8-100
Saw this info at a site:
The STR8-100 is the company's flagship deck, now with 1200-caliber high torque. High torque, as you probably know, is tantamount to being able to mix and skratch. The new 100 also adds anti-skating and tone arm height adjustment, placing it firmly in the realm of the big boys. Of course, it's still got that straight, no-skip tone arm.
The ST-100 has a curved tone arm like the 1200 and is meant for non-turntablist DJ applications, such as house mixing. It's also got that high torque and similar mechanical improvements.

Those TT's could be an alternative for 1200's I think but if they're better?
Anyway, did you ever mix a record with 25% pitching???
