Clear Channel

What do you think of these guys - do you support their concerts? What most people don't realize is there are some big people on their roster - one of them includes Paul Oakenfold...

Radio's big bully
A complete guide to Salon's reporting on Clear Channel, the most powerful -- and some would say pernicious -- force in the music industry.

- - - - - - - - - - - -
For the past few months, Salon reporter Eric Boehlert has been tracking the story of Clear Channel Communications, the little-noticed media giant that has quietly taken over the country's radio and concert industries.

The company owns nearly 1,200 radio stations and effectively controls the rock radio market. It also owns SFX Entertainment, the nation's dominant concert-venue owner and touring promoter.

In the stories below, Boehlert has detailed the corporation's evolution under the aegis of Randy Michaels, the one-time shock jock who has turned the industry upside down with rampant cost-cutting and a good-ol'-boy approach to management.

And in "Pay for Play" Boehlert details the new payola -- the complex arrangements under which the world's major record companies pay for virtually every rock song broadcast on commercial radio.

Finally, there is a link to the Clear Channel Web site, on which you can easily find the stations the company operates in your town.

I hate them. I wrote a paper for my intro journalism class and It had a quote from the President of Clearchannel that said. Clearchannel isn't in the business of providing well reasearched news and music programming, we're simply in the business of selling our advertiser's product to a large market. I hate them.

Hogan lives in Texas. Why don't you go have a heart-to-heart with him if you care about the issue so much.

Posted by Zild on Dec-17-2004 19:48:

We know where he lives. How could I not know almost every channel I can pick up on the radio is owned by Clear Channel.

quite the opposite actually. Fox is much less biased than its liberal counterparts(ie CNN, CNBC, MSNBC, etc), The programming is much more intelligent, and much less crap that must be waded through, such as CNN, CNBC, MSNBC.

Fuck Clear Channel those bastard have fucked over Howard Stern may they all burn in with Bush

I can't believe you just said that. The media is NOT liberal. I don't know who told you that lie or why you believe it. Read some books or something. Read up on media deregulation. Read on Michael Powell and the FCC. Maybe take an upper level Journalism class. Then come back and talk about the liberal media. C'mon Fox news is more biased than Al-Jazeera.

Intelligence shining through here...

and don't worry, Zild. You can have it both ways. Fox News certainly caters a more right-of-center audience, while the likes of CBS, CNN, NBC, et al. are clearly more leftward leaning. What's wrong with that?

Posted by Zild on Dec-19-2004 20:10:

CBS, CNN and NBC are not left leaning. Its ok though, you can believe that propaganda if you wish.
