Homeland Security Conference in Hawaii

Did anyone just see the 20 20 story that came on the TV? I'll post a link when it shows up on abc's site. But god damn that was disturbing. I hope it isnt true, soooooo much. I mean, I'd even settle for a little exageration, damn I hope that my gov't is not really doing this, especialy to the extent that this report seemed to show. It just makes me sick to think that the whole bloody population is afraid of getting attacked, which makes them support all this homeland security shit even more, then they decide to go throw a luau with the money.

!!!!

somebody please tell me that its a lie, just show me a little shred of something that can discredit this thing, please.

That the homeland security department is wasting all their money, and that they fired the whistleblower that wrote all the reports about it.

They had footage of all these people having fun on the beach and in a resort, on our tab.

Look I can't address this specifically as I haven't seen the 20/20 and don't have a clue how the homeland department is run...

BUT

I do get really annoyed when people complain that some government bureaucrats indulge in the same experience that corporate execs do, but when its the government doing it they get all cranky.

Look, I hate government spending as much (if not more so) than the other guy, but if you want the best people working in government you need to be competitive. And that means at minimum some perks that the corporate execs get to enjoy.

A happy staff makes for a good staff.

And a good staff makes a good business/government.

People on the gov't should be happy serving the public good and shouldn't be having fun at the population's expense. Happy officials are all well and good but if they want those perks I don't think they should come out of our pockets especialy when people think they are paying for something as important as homeland security. At least the corporate execs are paying for all that stuff out of their pockets and not mine. I think that there are a shitload of better ways to give perks to the people serving us besides taking money out of the security budjet for spending on parties, that is a really stupid idea and it makes it look like they don't care about protecting us because they are playing around with the money that is supposed to be spent towards keeping up from getting killed.

a few years ago we didnt have another useless wasteful department in our obese government. We are no more secure now than we were before this was created, now we are just spending more to help a few more politicians get fatter.
