Unhappy What's wrong with Ferry???

I've noticed there is quite a lot of crap about Ferry lately. I personally love that guy ... so I don't understand why people say he is overrated. So, everyone who doesn't like him: What's wrong with Ferry?

WTF are you talking about.

Posted by DickieThijssen on Dec-20-2004 21:26:

well i dont know about that, i do know his name is not mentioned as much as it used to be... Cant tell if he spins not as good as he used to, because i hardly ever hear his sets... Its all Armin and Tiesto nowadays. Last set i heard was Ferry in concert at Heineken Music Hall Amsterdam (1/2 year(s) ago?), that was soooo fucking amazing...

i don't know if anything's wrong with him... trance productions have just been piss poor on the whole since 2002, but that's coming from someone who grew up on '98 van dyk and oakenfold trance sets.

Posted by Durrrtysouth on Dec-20-2004 21:34:

there is nothing wrong with Ferry. Its just the latest trend to slag off on AVB, PVD, Tiesto, Markus Schulz, Above and Beyone and Ferry Corsten.

seems interesting, but I can't read it. Care to type out the title for a fellow Ferry fan?

Posted by CynepMeH on Dec-20-2004 21:42:

Well, Ferry himself is a bit tired of the scene, according to his recent interviews. On his album "right of way" he wanted to do something different and reception has been good but not as good as he expected.

Basically, Ferry is trying to move away from that "98 - 99" sound everyone has him pegeon-holled in and people are balking. I like his new stuff but I must say his older stuff is better. As far as some people saying he's overrated, well... you'll always have someone who likes or not likes what they hear.

It's all a matter of opinion; I could care less what others think... but that's just me....

Yes, it's a trend because they made it a trend to produce formulaic and unoriginal music. Paul van Dyk I have no problem with though, in general, but what do I know.

I'm sorry for being ignorant but have never really paid that much attention to Ferry and what he plays. I have a bunch of friends who really like him and praise about his live performances. Care to mention a few songs Ferry might play in a set (which are not his) so I can get a clear idea of what he sounds like?

That's the Mixed Live @ Spundae album, some really good stuff. I'm seeing Ferry on January 1st. Missed him last time through town, but he got some really good reviews. The only thing I've heard negatively about him in recent memory is some people weren't big on the Infinite Euphoria album, which had a lot of songs condensed to fit onto 2 CDs. Still the only set I've ever heard mixing Adiago for Strings into Smack my Bitch Up.

?

I think ferry is one of the one's that takes the least amount of bullshit from people in the community.

awesome, fanx guys

Just because he's not as popular as Tiesto or Armin. If he were as popular you would have the typical basher on his ass.

Posted by Vertigo on Dec-20-2004 22:07:

I heard almost only positive stuff about his set at Innercity, he dropped jawdropping tracks.. it pains me that I didn't see him but I'll surely make up for that during Trance Energy. ^_^

He has his own sound and spins solid, I have a lot of respect for him.

Posted by sbastien4678 on Dec-20-2004 22:35:

Nothing's wrong with Ferry in my opinion

This man is still the same years after years..

Posted by nettwerk on Dec-20-2004 23:28:

The only thing peple might say about him is that he spins more or less the same vibes in each set... but hey, far from me to complain . He still rocked me apart when he came to Lisbon...

Posted by svens_bath on Dec-20-2004 23:48:

ive sen him twice, and he was boring both times. the whole set was just that ferry-electroey trance synth sound, which i dont like. his essential mix ended by him attempting to play techno, but mixing it like a trance dj, and so it sounded shit.

Posted by Aquascape on Dec-21-2004 00:28:

He's my favourite trance producer ever. He has an amazing gift for producing astonishingly uplifting and catchy melodies. Armin is good and Tiesto I've never really cared for, but neither have anything on Ferry.

Posted by DannyO on Dec-21-2004 00:29:

I think the guy is a great DJ/Producer, I've been a fan since before his name was heard, and even though I loved the sounds from 98 and 99, if theres one sound I still realy love to hear today its Ferrys sound, so if hes reading these boards and sees this, KEEP UP THE AWESOME WORK, your one DJ I don't think I will ever get bored of hearing.

Nothing,
He is a dj and a producer, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Some people like his music, others don't.
Some dislike the direction his productions has taking, others don't.
Some like him because he is a big name, other don't...
All in all it is pretty much a question of likes and dislikes, but ultimately it has nothing to do with Ferry, but with the people listening (or not) to his music.

Since this board is all about expressing opinions, there are bound to be threads with a subject akin to "corsten is bad", and since some people in here make an art out of using foul language when expressing their opinions, it turns into bashing.

Personally I dig some of Ferrys stuff, and some of it not so much... when it comes to music i really don't care much who made it as long as it, for me, is worth listening to.

Names and labels don't add value unless you care more about others opinion (of your self) than your own

Posted by Unknown DJ on Dec-21-2004 01:50:

Personally i love the guy. Have done since the good old days of 99 and such. I'm not as much a fan now because of his new style, dont get me wrong i like it, but its just not the Ferry i know and love. But as for his mixing ability? I think he is probably the best in the business, blows van dyk, tiesto and armin all out the water when it comes to that area.

Posted by starlabs on Dec-21-2004 02:10:

Ferry Corsten is one of my top 5 fav DJs.

Super nice guy, and I've seen him spin quite a few times (I was actually there when they recorded that Live@Spundae LA set... WHAT AN AMAZING SET. Sorry, you had to be there ).

I like some of his newer "electro-ish" direction tracks that he's taking, others I didn't particularly care for. Hit-or-miss really with his recent outings. I think of his recent 2004 work, I like his Flashover Remix of Sweet Sorrow the most. But I give him props for trying something new, even if it doesn't resonate with everyone.
It'll be interesting to see what direction Ferry takes in 2005.

LMAO... so true.

Anyway, so to answer your original question: No. Nothing's wrong with Ferry.
