REASON ----OR-----FRUITLOOPS???? Just answer and justify it......
tell me your opinions, I would like to hear some recomendations...
I'm going to begin creating Trance music...
Re-birth because i prefer it , not particular reason
everybody says rebirth is more difficult but i found fruity loops more difficult

If you want to just jump on in there and get some half-decent sounding tracks then use fruity loops.
But if you want to get some pro sounding tracks, then get reason, and a good quality hardware synth (I use the roland jp-8000),and spend a little more time learning the more complicated reason, and the results will be fantastic.
Yeah id go with what transa said,
for xmas im gonna see if i can get the parents to help me pay for either some hardware synths or 2 1200s and a decent mixer. it all depends on how much money i have
definatly reason....
i used re-birth, hated their bassline and drums
i used fruity loops and i don't like the way their effects work, the knobs and shit
and then i got reason..and i love it..you can really make a track sound professional. and just like someone mentioned before, if you get a nice synth to go with it you'll be straight.
about REASON MANUAL...
does someone has the REASON manual???
how can we do??
I'm pretty sure you can get the manual in acrobat format from propellerheads.se
I thought Reason was a completely different tool, like a MIDI editor?
In FruityLoops you can write and play a melody, it has built-in instruments and a piano graph, -- does Reason have that too?
Well from what I know so far Reason is not so user friendly
I have no idea what I am doing with it...
And fruitloops definatly alot easier to use
but from what I can observe thus far reason can be alot more powerful once u get over the steep learning curve.
Any good online articles on the issue beside the manual ?
Eugene : reason has build in instruments, piano roll...u name it it has it, and it can be used as a midi editor.
gk_nz: yea, reason is not user friendly, too me a while to figure out how to play with effects and all the devices it has, and it has a lot of devices...fruity loops is just a stand-alone program while reason u can connect with re-birth...
one thing I have found very annoying is the difficultie I am having with trying to create my own instruments n stuff. When u create a new song it has all that crap and you have to go through and get rid of stuff just to do one thing alone and listen to it alone etc to get the sound u want. Also I haven't figured out exactly what all the various devices do but some are annoying as they are stopped and started in other parts and some do and ahhhhh its pretty daunting but I am determind to learn how to use it.
One question is though is it worth using if you dont have any external devices
yea, the pre-loaded drum and bassline patterns piss me off, but u can clear them with 2 mouse clicks, as for devices just play with them. there are many knobs on some devices which i don't know what they do...experiment i guess
I have never seen fruityloops but I think reason is a decent piece of software. You have a lot of freedom to create music and it's this variety that's hard to get a grip on at first.
Is anyone here using Buzz to make music? It's a freeware tracker that is very modular and can generate awesome sounds. This one is real hard on your brain though
have a look at http://www.buzzmachines.com (hum.. there it says: from now on it's possibble to use buzz with fruityloops... oh well
)
As for those who hate the standard reason song template. Make your own template! Just kill everything you don't want (you prolly want to keep the mixer and the audio out device
) and save as "Default Song.rns" without the quotes of course. (Maybe create a backup in case u f*ck up)
Reason if.....
Get Reason if u have keyboard with midi functions if u dont have keyboar get fruity.....

hey DJ Teknique, what flag is that you're using?? that is the coolest flag ever.
i need to bring that to a chargers game.
FLP + Orion is twice as better than Reason together, and thrice as cheaper than Reason. (Like anybody's buying it anyway...

).
And if you have Rebirth as well, and loop software (such as Acid or Cakewalk stuff), it's even better.
also, FLP & Orion support VSTi, I don't think Reason does it.
reason
Don't be unreasonable (oh its a pun!)
I've used both and i found fruitloops to be a bit simplistic and unprofessional...They have the right idea, its just too basic.
Reason is very advanced, you can do lots of stuff with just the software, having some nice hardware to hook up will make it even better.
I'd go with reason.
jzmhed1, thats a ukrainian flag
fear our flag
sorry for off topic

Also, FLP supports Buzz machines nowadays...
What about Orion Pro as good a Reason, beter then Fruityloops
Orion is a 'virtual' music studio suite for the PC running under Windows 95/98/2000. It recreates all parts of a traditional studio including sequencing, the emulation of a mixing desk and all wired rackmount hardware (Synthesizers, Samplers, Drums, Effects etc).
All calculations inside Orion, are done in 32-bit resolution - twice the resolution of normal CD-Audio. You can export your songs as WAV files, in 16-bit resolution, ready for CD - or in 32-bit resolution, ready for subsequent editing in a different program. If you want to record your music on DAT, exporting at 48 kHz is also possible.
Custom Arpeggios can be defined and used in the arpeggiator
All chords for the AutoChord function are now configurable, custom chords can be added
MIDI CC automation for VSTi's added as an alternative to the normal VST parameter automation. This allows you to record controller changes for multitimbral VSTi's on any MIDI channel
New effect added: Analog Clipper
New effect added: Stereo Widen
Compressor now has seamlessly adjustable hard/soft knee curve shapes
FXP support added for VST Plugins
DXi support added
Drum pattern changes are now undoable as well
The new Velocity Editor now works correctly for the drums module and multitimbral VSTi's
