Teach me about sound quality and cables.

I have xone92 and the outputs on it are all 6.5mm headphone jack sized, inputs are rca.

Are the 6.5mm sized cables better quality? Build wise and Sound wise?

If the inputs are rca to begin with, does having 6.5mm outputs make a difference if they are in fact better quality?

Do the 6.5mm output cables provide any other advantage?

I know very little about the technicalities of this so if some one wants to school me that would be fantastic.

No matter how much you spend on quality cables, mixers, needles and speakers .. nothing and I mean NOTHING will make the music you play sound any better.

That goes for all Prog DJs.

The only reason trance sounds so good is because your arms are always up in the sky next to your ears, blocking the noise.

Do you blame me with all the Armin wannabees and then theres the random Trance DJs trying to be "sophistacted" by dropping prog in their sets?

Posted by escee on Dec-21-2004 14:15:

The '6.5mm' output is called a 1/4" jack or a "quarter inch" jack or simply a phono jack. They are primarily used if you want to send your mixer signal to a 'phono in' on a mixer board or an external source. Check carefully. If I remember correctly, all Allen and Heath's have RCA out's as well as digital out too. Otherwise, use a 'Phono2RCA' cable. This should be available at your local electronics store or even the super.

Types of common cables/inputs/outputs:
RCA(unbalanced output) [turntables,mixers,CD players]
XLR(balanced output)[larger 3-pin cables used to connect most commonly to speakers and mixer boards as well(higher-end mixers have this in case you want to directly connect your mixer to a pair of speakers(say JBL EON'S)]
phono cable[your basic 1/4" jack most commonly found on mixers, component music systems etc.]

Yes, phono cables are balanced outputs meaning it's a two-wire cable where the interference(noise) is equally carried by both wires as opposed to single-wire RCA cable. Thus, a phono cable has higher noise immunity as compared with an RCA cable.

Hope this helps.
