Be Cool!

DJ mag.com Ranks Sasha #1

Personally i think that sasha is NOT #1 i have seen him live and he wasn't that good.

WHO IS #1

Posted by Evmac on Jan-30-2001 18:01:

#1

This is a very tough question...

Posted by TBass on Jan-30-2001 18:36:

Sasha is awsome in his stlye, My personal favorites are DJ Tiesto and Armin Van Buuren, but of course there are so many out there that I like.

T-Bass

you can't answer this, since there is a lot of DJs who are the best at what they do, within their little niche. If you want to know who is the most *popular* DJ, then you probably won't know who is the best. Also, what criteria would you use to define a *good* DJ ? Mixing technique ? Track selection ? Stage appearance ? As you see, it is really impossible to say that a certain DJ is number one.

peace

Moby??

I guess if you are talking about overall dj skills Moby would probably be the best because he can do anything or spin anything.

Posted by djelloun on Jan-30-2001 19:39:

Shame / Disagreement that is difficult to say...

Hmmm, to answer this question you must divide it in different Sections. It depends also on the listeners Background, how many years he is already listening to Trance/Techno/House, if he is young or old, if he's open minded to Music Styles and if he understands the Real Meaning of our Techno Culture !

So you could say for the Techno Part it is Carl Cox, because he's the most known DJ in the World and his mixing skills are legendary. Other would say he's shit because his music is too hard and abstract. For the Trance Part you could say it is Oakenfold as one of the first who played Trance in the Clubs all over the World. So others don't like Oakey because his Sound is sometimes special and quite advanced to others Sound Style. You see, you can judge Pro and Contra for every DJ, depends if you like his Sound and his Face!

The final Conclusion to this Question is, that there is no No.1 DJ in the World !! The Media can "create" a Super DJ, but this doesn't count in my eyes. You must find out yourself who is your personal Hero, that's it....

i think the best trance dj is Paul Van Dyk....his sets are so sweetly mixed awsome tune selection ..doesnt play one type of song through out the set mixes it up with many genres of trance...he can read crowds so good..and knows exactly what to play to pick the crowd up!!!!

Posted by MIthrandir on Jan-30-2001 20:48:

I have to agree with TranceCluber .. I think PvD is the #1 dj.. he knows how to make dance people all around the place DJ Tiesto is not far behing IMO and armin van buuren is 3rd .. that's what I think ..

Posted by cyberia on Jan-30-2001 21:22:

Really tough question! another dj=another style (even if you stay in the same genre),and also some dj's try other styles sometimes, and sometimes it makes them less great!
But if I have to put a name on it,I'll choose a Belgian oneDj wout!(dj at illusion en carat)really knows how to get the crowd movin',without losing his personal taste,en knows how to change style within a set!

Posted by Lexicon on Jan-30-2001 21:25:

Nobody

I do not rate DJs like that...'Best DJ'?... Hmmmm...

What do mean by best? Able to beat-matching while doing a handstand? If that is the one, my props goes out to Taucher.

Posted by arturob on Jan-30-2001 22:28:

The Names Says It ALL.

Paulus van Dyk
There's no more to talk.
Best Trance Deejay Ever.

Respect...

Posted by Tranceformer on Jan-30-2001 22:34:

All the dj are good in there own way, hence you like the dj that satisfies your style.
As for me, only Tiesto & PVD's style can satisfy me

Posted by agi on Jan-30-2001 22:37:

Talking #1

Me. LOL

Peace

Posted by ambrus07 on Jan-31-2001 15:39:

there is no such thing. best dj is very subjective. its all about personal preference.

Posted by Rombert on Jan-31-2001 17:19:

Smoking ..umm..something Underworld

Underworld is defenitely the best. (although it is more of a band/DJ)

<;B~<

Posted by agi on Jan-31-2001 17:32:

underworld

I would agree, if only because of the fact they made the track " born slippy". Now theres a classic. (Should probably find that thread and put that done, ahh fuck that)

Peace.

As Paul van Dyk said in an Interview with Slam FM, there is no way to rate who is the best DJ for everybody,
you can only rate who is the best DJ for YOU!

And the best DJ for you is the DJ who plays the music you like, because thats the main job of a DJ, all DJs can mix,
but not all can play music and make a set that will take you to a different universe.....this is the best DJ for you..

Personally I like Armin van Buuren because he plays a nice mix between soft and hard trance...
I also like Sven Vath though, he plays it really hard...and I like it hard

yea, I agree what the others have posted before me. I guess you can have a "best dj" for a category... maybe "track selection" or whatever it may be. but does it really matter who holds the title to "Best dj?"??? I mean, as long as you enjoy it and I guess if it were live, they can make you dance, then that's all that matters

Why do people keep on opening threads like this?
It's about the 5th of the kind I've seen already and it never has an end, because everybody has his or hers own favourite. Why 'argue' about this topic if there are just as many tastes as there are trancEaddicts?

Posted by Evmac on Feb-02-2001 19:55:

Shame / Disagreement Dont read it then

Paul Van Dyk.

My personal heroes are Paul Van Dyk, DJ Tiesto, Marco V, D:Fuse, Sasha, and Digweed.

And let me get this straight, Taucher can handstand and beatmatch? Do you have a video clip of it or something? I am intrigued

Moby???? Did someone really say Moby???? Moby does not spin regularly. He plays a guitar. On top of that, he sucks. If someone else says bT I am going to slap them. LEARN WHO SPINS AND WHO JUMPS AROUND THE STAGE WITH A SYNTHESIZER PEOPLE!!! The ignorant should not be allowed to state their ignorant opinions. As for my vote, Nick Warren. Incredible skill, technique, presense, etc. And if you saw him live and you thought he sucked, keep that story to yourself cause I could careless. Have a wonderful day!!

Obviously people have the right to their own opinions, and by the way what makes YOU the almighty on Best DJ's. Is it because you have the letters DJ beside your name?? I can do that too you know.

Ignorant, ha.
