Well the hardware of both ssl and final scratch are sound cards. They are just able to monitor whats inputing into it while it's playing back at the same time. As for rane's ssl, i've got it to work on a compaq notbook w/ a celeron 800mhz, and 256MB shared ram on a really screwed up install of xp-home, and it actually worked well. Since the soundcard used on both products is a seperate piece of hardware, you really don't need to worry about whats on the pc you install it on, so don't freat too much about that. As for a laptop, i personally would like a mac for production use b/c of the software thats out there. Im not one of those mac freaks, im actually a pc tech, i just like how stable and fast macs do audio tasks, and i really like the software/hardware audio products out there.

A word of advice when it comes to a notebook for club and mobile use, get lightweight and portable. My notebook has a uber crap battery life and weighs a ton. Not to fun to lug around.
