Asia quake's tsunamis kill over 11,600

Tsunamis and Quakes kill thousands

A pray and my thoughts go out to all the people who have lost their friends family and colleagues in this natural disaster. So sad watching the news and see this unfold...

Ahh...can't remember his name, but he lives in Penshurst. I gave him a lift home the other night with my sister and her friends. I think he said he went to school with you.

this is bad to hear considering I booked a trip for end of march.

That's all down the gurgler and there aren't too many other places to visit in SE asia now. - esp. one's that have some of the best people and most beautiful sites.

My heart goes out to the locals who seemed to be getting on their feet in life...finally.

Posted by tathi on Dec-28-2004 10:12:

Chris there are plenty of sites to visit in SE Asia, you're not going to find the "best people and most beautiful sites" in a resort on Phuket - just some families and old people. The south eastern coast of Thailand was not hit and you'd have more fun relaxing on beaches at Koh Samui, or dancing with thousands of people at the EDM full moon party at Koh Phangan and there are plenty of great sites in inland Thailand and South East Asia.

you can still visit the three of the greatest sites in the world:
Angkor Wat in Cambodia
Bagan in Burma
Borobudur in Java

Tourism is a very big priority in these countries and you'll find that the infrastructure will be put back in place very soon. The lack of revenue from the fall in the tourist trade will hit the government and the locals very hard - something they don't need after such a tragedy

i'll be in SE Asia from mid Jan to March

I now hear the toll has hit over 60,000 people over 50,000 confirmed dead. Truly a major catastrophe of recent times.
