question about recording a mix directly onto computer...
I just bought a Sony Vaio minitower today and have attempted to hook my mixer directly to it by using my record out on my mixer and the red and white audio inputs on the front of my computer. But for some reason I can't figure out to to record. The guy at CompUSA told me you can record the mixer's output, but I am lost. Anyone know how I can work this? Again, on teh front of my computer there are white and red rca type inputs. thanks
Hm, dunno, all I had to do was to plug the cables in and hit record.
Check the audio settings of your OS (Win XP, I assume) and see if the line in is enabled or not.
You need a recording program. Soundforge is one you could try (it's the one that's comming off the top of my head) You also need to setup your soundcard to record from a specific port. You may have to do this in the Sony Mixer (if there is one, I have never bought a Sony and I have no idea if they have their own mixer software) so, what you can do is
Start > Programs > Accesories > Enterainment > Volume Control
click options, then tick recording
select Aux or Auxiliary. This will make your computer "listen" on the Aux ports, which are those red/white ports. If you don't see an Aux or anything related to that, you may have to add them;
Volume Control
click options
look around in "Show the following volume controls"
Then just fire up Soundforge and start recording.

Stereo Mix

huge help guys! Gonna try it in a few. Thanks.
I tried it and it didn't work. How would I know if the computer can hear the sound coming out of my mixer? I don't think that my computer volume mixer has an AUX channel.
I'd say just get an RCA to headphone jack adapter and plug it in to your line-in in the back of your soundcard.

ok, I'll try that tomorrow.
Anyway, I aquired a demo copy of soundforge hoping that I can get it to work using it. But I tried messing around with it for awhile and still can't seem to get it to hear the audio....I'm, not sure how to select the front RCA inputs through sound forge...
zizack, i'll show you my amazing paint skills on how to set it up in a little bit...10 minutes

and you have the other volume ones
lol
ummm, I don't get it. I have a Xone: 92...i'm using the RCA record outs...I have them directly linked to teh front rca inputs of the computer. I just tried runnign sound forge and it doesn't seem to find anything. I'm using version 6.0 btw...?
just choose record, window pops up then choose your audio device than hit record again on the new window. it finds the input by it self.
theres rca inputs in the front of ur comp? Sweet
now go to start > programs > accessories > entertainment > volume controls > options > properties > click on recording > make sure stereo input is checked > click ok > use the volume settings in the other picture (scroll up) > make sure stereo input is checked below the volume slider > done
I just tried again and still no luck. IDK what the deal is. Looking at those pictures that someone posted...my mixer is different...it doesn't let me "select" a channel...in place of that is a "mute" box to check..could that be the problem?

Do you have a Soundblaster Audigy Platnum or Live Platnum that gave you the front panel box? If so, you might need to go into its own control panel to adjust the items there. When I was using my Live Platnum, I was having trouble getting the front panel RCA's to work right.
