quality essential mixes from the 90s
am not too fond of listening to mixes on the comp, but after hearing Blu Peter's essential set from 1997, i'm reconsidering...
anyone else want to recommend or add? especially sets with a nice blend of quality trance/tech/prog
Posted by xpand_the_room on Dec-27-2004 19:20:
mate, the essential mix has been running for 10 years now - thats over 520 EMs, with pver 1000 hours of the most quality music
there are so many, i wouldnt know where to start - today i enjoyed
laurent garnier - essential mix 25.06.94
but i reckon you could make 5 top 50 EMs, and they would be as good as each other

Other than the obvious ones (*cough* Oakenfold '99 *cough*), well, actually, I can't think of any others right now...
The Oakenfold sets aren't very techy, except some tracks maybe.

i also found this: http://www.essentialmix.ca/index.php which includes a good deal of tracklistings and such

The only essential mixes i've heard that i'd listen to again are from Laurent Garnier and Carl Craig. And the Scratch Perverts (best EM i've heard..i've heard many from 1994-2004...zabiela, sasha, mwnn, garnier, digweed, tiesto, carl craig, carl cox, dave clarke, oakenfold, etc..no comparison)...but that's from this year.

Oakenfold live in La Havanna, Cuba...can't remember the year but this was one spectacular mix.

Indeed, there are much better EM's out there than Oakies 99 Tour. I don't understand why you always get one person in these EM threads going "Oakey.. nuff said."

i agree...i heard the Shanghai Oakey mix, and the other one where he mixes Quivver into PVD i believe..they're good but they're not the end all be all of essential mixes lol. i've heard some sasha and diggers ones to before, but i'd rather listen to some other mixes like Blu Peter's style. ill def. take a look at Carl Craig's mixes and i should probly check out Christopher Lawrence as well..was listening to a mixed cd of the latter in my m8's house which was very badass oldschool trance. as for Laurent Garnier, he's quality and all but not really my style to be candid...but i've only heard most of his new stuff so perhaps his older sets are different. i've also heard plenty of PVD's older sets, they're alright...i'd also have to check out the CJ Bolland and Dave Angel ones, i fancy it's some good techno?
J00f's essential from 00' and 01' i believe are also pretty wicked..
i'd like to hear Fred Numf's essential mix if there is one extant..his mixes are by and large quality stuff too.. anything else to add?
am d/l the Scratch Perverts EM from this year at 84 kb/s now..hope i like it

Sorry.
I've gotten addicted to them, again.
His mixing is quick and pretty rough, but the track selection is something special. Maybe it's because his sets were the first ones I ever heard, but I dunno, I heard some of Tiesto's too, and they sucked.
