System F - Out of The Blue (RickyM Remix)

Not sure if I did this justice or not - but here's my remix anyway. Any opinions appreciated.

very driving.. very cool flute sound.. i like the quality of the sound.. the synths are very good.. good rhythm.. a little messy those synths sequencers but thats is prolly how it is meant to be.. good work

Don't like the structure, the track is too short.

In terms of sound quality though, it sounds great...except the pads are too thin i think, bring on the JP8000 hehe.

The lead synth was done on vanguard by the sound of it, and is also too thin sounding...try layering lots of different synths and covering a wider range of frequencies.

Overall; Has potential, but not quite meeting it...

Don't give up.

Oh my god you have improved lately The soundquality in this one is very nice! The melody-pattern is the same, but it's all good anyway! certainly a good remix this one!!!

Cheers PDM and Sunquest.

Here sunquest, if the volume is low then turn up your speakers!

>i dont think the volume is lower than other stuff
>good groove in this track man
>this "siren" that comes in @ about 00:43 sounds ridiculous imo
>nice strings
>break is very nice and pretty and i love that wistled melody too
>main part is pretty too AHHHH how awful, the siren is coming back please take that off.

overall, i think this is a cuuute track good work !!!

Thanks Static Blue

I wanted to include the siren from the original - I was wondering whether people would like it or not!

sorry, to be brutally honest there really isn't much postive i can say about about this. it sounds like a reconstruction of the orignal with the whole mix sounding pretty bland, with the synths sounding very software + the percs very amateury/bare. i do like the clap, not the reverse clap.

if you were gonna do something original, then credit would be due, but this brings nothing new to this over-remixed classic

Thanks for your feedback, but I do think you're being a tad unfair.

I wasn't really trying to do anything 'new' with the song, I just thought I'd keep everything the same way. And apologies for the software sounding synths, but that is unfortunately what happens when you make a synth with software.
Also - as I am only an amateur producer, producing for fun, my songs are going to be amateur sounding

you don't need hardware to get rid of the software sound, i suppose i should have said preset-ish. its a very easy trap to fall into with hardware too

I can't speak from the other side of the story here, as someone whos relatively shit too, but a remix shouldn't sound exactly the same, which is why I think Luke's correct to be a bit harsh. Even if you're only amateur & messing with tunes, there's got to be a point where you do something 'new' with it, as many people will compare it to the original and come to the same conclusion he has, and it's pretty much the one I'd give too. Keep practising sure, but don't take offense to anything that needs to be said, i'd rather see him being cruel than shouting omg tune at it cos that'd do you no good at all

Posted by RickyM on Jan-03-2005 19:31:

Ok cheers guys I get your points.

However I can tell you that if I tried to do something 'new' with Out of The Blue I would have made a real pigs arse of it!

Sounds like an oldschool remix. Actually sounds more like edit of the original
-Lower the volume of that reversed clap and increase the volume of the clap.
-The strings don't sound natural.
-None mentioned a thing about the kick, but i must say it sounds pretty good to me.
-I know how to make that lead on FL, it's pretty simple.

Anyway don't let this comments lower your spirit, keep producing

Thanks Syeker

I like that sliding synth in the intro.

I think your break could use more effects. Give it more of a full feel.

I'm afraid I'm going to have to say that it sounds very preset-ish as well, not to mention I haven't even heard the original, and I can tell that this brings nothing new to the table. It sounds like the setup for every System F song that I've heard. I realize you weren't going for anything new, but I can't really hear anything blatantly creative.
