Simple......because they know we'll pay those stupid prices, just look at Technic 1200s, prolly cost them 10 bux to make now, and then charge a huge amount for them.

Its the design and engioneering your paying for not the material and costs. Just like computer parts, practicly made from sand some parts bearly cost a few dollars to make yet they charge hundreads

Yeh...I had to buy a new stylus for my numark cc-1 & it was amazing how much it cost.

$43 for a little tiny peice of plastic with a metal needle thingy at the end.

Rip, but hey...gotta buy it

yea guys but your forgetting that the stylus is a diamond, and diamonds are very expensive. Granted the size they use for a stylus tip is so small, there isn't much real value to it, but they are still cut to a precise angle and shape, and that adds to the expense. Very expensive machines are needed to do the cutting. The cartridge isn't really anything to expensive, but they do have magnetics and some pretty precise engineering is involved still to make them. There is also not as huge market for needles anymore, just the DJ market and hi-fi buffs, and not being so plentiful thats how they can charge a decent amount for them because we are willing to pay those prices and there not made in huge quantities

its all in the cost of production. its precision engineering with expensive materials. it all adds up . bear in mind, what we pay for styli is nothing compared to high-end audiophile styli
