question about slipmat

ok...i unpacked my technics sl1200mk2 tt and i see it came with a rubber mat...then i read somewhere it isn't very wise to just use the rubber one under the vinyl so i went out and bought the regular slipmats (i suppose they're cloth or something).

now my question is, should i put the rubber mat on top of the metal platter, followed by placing the slipmat i bought on top of the rubber mat, or should i simply put the slipmat on top of the metal platter and disregard the rubber mat altogether?

the technics turntable - believe it or not, even if it is the industry standard - was not meant for DJing - at least not originally. rather it was a high end record player, with pitch control. so they bring these rubber slipmats to grip your vinyl nice and tight. if you were to try to cue a vinyl with this rubber mat, you'd be in trouble.

so, short answer - disregard the rubber, use the one you bought.

thx for the advice...although this one person tells me to keep both on, especially the rubber coz it prevents dust and shit going into the magnet area..but i suppose you're saying it's hazardous to cue the vinyl with rubber so i'll probly take your counsel

I just opened up my techs lastnight to installs some LED, and under the platter is a plastic cover already to keep dust and debris out. so totally put the rubber matting away. Its useless to you..

Have fun with you new TT's.

thx...btw, what is an LED and how do i get this other platter to put under my platter lol?

the other platter thing is already inside.. under the main steel platter..

the LEDs are the lights inside the on/off knob, under the 33/45 buttons and pitch slider 0 light

An LED is a little light (it stands for light emitting diode). Some people like to replace the original red ones with blue ones, although I'm getting kind of sick of blue LEDs everywhere.

And I think you misunderstoof, there is no other platter to go under the platter. He was just talking about how he had to take the platter (the metal thing that the slipmat goes on top of) off to change the LED.

Apparently there is a plastic seal underneath the platter that protects it from dust, so there is absolutely no reason to keep the rubber slipmat.

DO NOT THROW IT AWAY, it is very useful and important, you need that rubber mat so you can find the person who said that and slap them in the face with it, THEN you can throw it away.

i wouldn't throw it away... dunno exactly what i'd keep it for, but i guess i just would...
