Denon s3000 vs Cdj800

Yes, before I start I have searched, and read all the relavent threads, shame the one posted a month back turned into a discussion on the pcv275 mixer.

I really want someone to convince me to go for the cdj800's, but at the moment i cannot see why i would choose the 800 over the 3000.

Basically i wont use mp3 playback, I dont want a roatating platter.

I do want a cdj with loops, good scratch emulation and an accurate pitch slider.

I am weighing it up like this:

Denon has:
15 second sampler
0.02 % pitch increments at +/- 4% (and to be honest i mix within these bands 99% of the time)

Cdj800 has:
Good scratch emulation (allough the denons isnt much worse from the vids i have seen)
Quick Return and Auto Loop Feature


Which one would you seriously recommend to go for? (people who have expeience with either/or). Or if you were in my shoes which would you get?

How about go and try these out and see which one you like? btw, you dont want to limit yourself. 99% is a lofty # for not going over 4% pitch, especially when you start using these units and seeing the actual pitch you are at.

CDJ800,own 2 , they are built stronger than a tank. So reliable.

I have 5000's, they are pretty much the same as 3000's but with mirror ability.

Anyways, if you use vinyl and adding cd, the spinning platter is nice. if not, it dont matter. either is good. id peg them the same. though i think the 800 might be a bit more precise

I now own a pair of cdj800s (got them because they were cheaper in the states)

If you have the money go with the s3000s for sure. You get a spinning platter, a sampler, and more accurate pitch. Trust me the difference between the s3000 at %0.02 and the 800 at %0.05 is very noticable.

Thanks, always informative to hear from someone who has used/owned both.

CDJ 800's all the way. if you have extra cash, go for the CDJ 1000's.

I own a S5000 and it does have trouble reading some burned CDs, I think if I was to buy another CD Player it would be the Pioneer just cause its made soo well, and I believe the lazer pickup is better too.

yeah my denons did not read cds that I had burned on really cheap cds. However my pioneer players do not read those same cds, so I cant knock the denons.

You won't run into problems if you burn on reasonable quality disks, and at low speeds.

+/- 4% pitch is a VERY small range. Once you see how nice your music sounds with the pitch lock at higher pitch ranges you'll be mixing outside of 4% all the time. I do anyway. I had just owned technics 1200MkII's before my cdj1000mk2. I thought that the pitch lock feature was crap because i had learned to only ever mix within a small range because anything out of the range sounded bad. That has totally changed with the addition of my cdj now. As far as what you should get. I'd suggest a used cdj-1000mk2 for the same price as either one of those new. I've never seen a club with denons. I've seen lots with cdj-1000mk2's and a few with cdj-800s. To each their own though.

I own CDJ800s and have used the Denons on multiple occasions.

The Denons are quite nice, if you feel comfortable using them. I learned to mix on CDJ-100s, so I am partial to the Pioneer way of doing things. I suppose if you were trained on vinyl, you would be partial to the Denons. The spinning platter is a cool feature and really does a lot to emulate the vinyl experience. The other features like A-track and the multiple loop functions are nice, but I feel that it's a little too much.

Despite the quality of the Denons, I still recommend the CDJ-800. They are much simpler and more intuitive to operate, and I feel the vinyl sound is more accurate. You mention auto-loop and quick return as desired features, but I also wouldn't rule out the wide pitch control and the master tempo features (If the Denons have these, I don't know about it). Also, the 800s are so much like the CDJ-1000 that it's no problem to switch between the two, with the 1000 being the industry standard and the deck you're likely to find in many clubs.

I was thinking about one of these two as well. I havent mixed on CDs yet, all vinyl. Are CD players like vinyl tables as far as needing to be used to the club standard for when you play out (e.g., you need to be familiar w/spinning w/1200s and Pioneer CDJs if you play in clubs)?

Most cdjs are similar enough.

If you can use a denon, youll have no problem using a pio.

The denon does have a spinning platter, but remember it can be disabled so that it works like a pioneer, just in case you want to really get a feel of what the pios are like.

I have owned both (the dns3000 and the 800) I currently own the 800s, but I wouldnt say they are superior to the 3000s at all. They were just cheaper in my case. If you are buying canadian though, the dns3000 might be slightly cheaper, and it does have 0.02 pitch and sampler over the 800...so its a good deal.
