What octave range do you play your bass notes on?
Im just curious at what range everyone places their bass notes..
my bass sounds usually don't sound that great unless they are above D of octave 1 (middle C being octave 3). I usually keep them between those two D's (octave 2 and octave 1), going higher if necessary. It's a good point to make that if you write a track in a certain key, say F, for example.. and you want low bass, it'll be kinda hard to whip out that really low sound with a good bass sound, so you may want to rewrite the F song in another key or something, just to move the whole thing up some octaves (if you want higher bass it doesn't matter).
whereever it sounds good!
Yeah, hitting a low note in some scales is difficult because the frequencies wont hit the sub and the sound will be almost inaudible. Sometimes its best to change the key of the song in that case.
Where do you put your basslines i typical start the note right after the kick.
as low as possible.
Well you can't just say on what octave the bassnotes are playing, because it also depends on the synth and the synth settings you are using. But usually my bassnotes are in first/second and sometimes 3rd octave......... (or 2 octaves at the same time
)
in the mid range, not too low and not too high or else it will blend with the lead
If you cant hear you bass notes because its too low, use a program called MaxxBass. It's made by Wave Native. It increases the level of the upper harmonics of the bass, and it sounds amazing
^Nice tip, will check it out.
