TT's for those of us without a lotta $$

I'm currently saving up for turntables but have seen that I will probably not be able to get 1200s unless I spend many years saving up which I don't want to do. What are the best turntables under the 1200s in your opinion? I'm looking at $350-400 US cost for each turntable. I was looking at Gemini but I've only heard bad things about them.

Plz help!!
Thanks

i'm saving up for some gemini xl 500 2 400 bucks for this http://www.Hollywooddj.com/noname9.html cheapest i found..witht he cheap ass mixer.hehe I bet you get a lot of people say..dont get cheap ones . save up for technics hehe, its kind of annoying its like saying dont get a (civic, accord, jetta, or whatever..) save up to get a BMW or FERRARI! i know no one will say it but yeah still same damn thing just about.

I'm planning on getting cheaper turntables and then practice on them while I save up for 1200s which I won't have for a long time. If you don't have the money, thats what I suggest.

I hear Gemini's are real crap though but I haven't tried them out so I don't know for sure. People usually compare them to 1200s probably which in that case, they are crap but are still good for starting DJs.

Are those for sale, or just the deal you got?

If they're for sale, i'll buy them right now...

Go to http://www.123dj.com they are selling Technic 1210's for $399 a piece. See you do have enough money for Tech's :-)

no he doesnt. the techs are 400 a peice, the gemini are 2 TT and a mixer for 400

Posted by Lost on Oct-29-2001 16:55:

yea but trance dj said he's willing to spend $350-$400 per turntable so he's getting the damn technics cuz there's no reason to buy anything else. and yeah you'll hear a lot of us say that it's better to save up enough cash to buy the technics. i think a lot of us are saying this from experience. why waste the precious resource of money on suboptimal product when usually the technics aren't that far away. i can understand impatience cuz i'm about as impatient as they come, but really it is best to wait for the technics. i don't know how many times my friends and i lament over the wasted money on gemini, numark, stanton products. i've now got technics and i'm so happy. have fun spinnin' on the wheelz of steel!!!!

i agree...
i this situation waiting is the best thing to do...

i wish i would have waited...
i would have bin spinning (cds) on numarks instead of some crap cd player i have that no one has ever heard of...

but i'm moving to Vinyl soon...
HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY JOY JOY JOY!!!

I can understand what you're saying here. I guess Technics aren't too far away...maybe a few more months of saving up but it seems that is doable because I won't be making the mistake of buying crap stuff and wasting my money. Thnx

Posted by f120man on Oct-29-2001 22:27:

yes my TT are for sale.
condition:
1) both have numerous scratches on it.
2) 1 TT has a busted wire, its been replaced ghetto style(i bought em like that). and the same TT has a broken pop up light(it pops up, but no light).
3) both work fine.
if you can put up with it being in a used condition. these are budget technics 1200mk2 for you.

i have manual either. and for shipping, i might get my friend's 1200m3d boxes for shipping.
-thanks

p.s. ill be out of the country for about 2 weeks, so if you want to buy it, just gimme some time. ill be able to read emails.

Does anybody know if 123 dj is a jip or not? Anybody every bought from them. They're rumored to be notorious. Plus their site layout flat out sucks. My lil' sister could make a more organized/better looking site than that crap.

The layout on that site isn't THAT bad, although I agree it could be much better..

by the way, the pics in your signature aren't working.

An awesome and very cheap TT is the Gemini PT-2100.. it has a very strong motor, you can scratch on it, it has very good sound.... and it's only $200!!!!

Yeah I know...the sigs turn on and off at random moments for some reason, I can't figure out why.

I suggest either Denons or Stanton STR-880. The Denons are more expensive but put out 2.2 kg of torque, compare that to Technics 1.5 and Vestax 2.0. The Stanton are cheaper but put out less torque 1.5 kg. You can buy the Stantons for as low as $220-$250(520 sk cartridge included) and the Denons for as low as $330-$350.

Go to shop.yahoo.com to get the cheapest prices!

I live in Chicago and i'm going check out the place. Sometimes a bad site is a good sign that they keep everything, I mean everything cheap. At least that's my experience with computer parts. I'll put something up here after I visit in person.

Posted by DJ Sunburn on Nov-03-2001 15:28:

cool

Alright that'll be cool.

Posted by DJTJ on Nov-03-2001 17:48:

I have to agree with the thing about saving up for the Technics. Don't bother buying some useless pieces of crap and say, "oh, I'll just use these until I have saved up enough for Technics". Because, you will not save up enough for Technics. Once you have decks, no matter how shite, you'll be spending all of your money on vinyl. You will never have enough for techs!

I was lucky, because I started uni and got a student loan. That's the only reason I could afford Technics when I had crappy turntables!

Posted by Kevin on Nov-03-2001 18:41:

I have spoken with the guys at www.123dj.com before and although their not very friendly on the phone, i would not hesitate to buy from them(I haven't yet because they dont ship USPS). Their prices are UNBEATABLE, and even if by some freak chance you find it cheaper elsewhere, they will match the price. They run a huge music store in Chicago called MiniMax Electronics(or something like that) and only the website is called 123DJ. Well, anyway, thats my limited experience with them.
Happy Shopping!

Kev

low prices

Yeah...i've noticed about every week on 123 dj is blowout week...I'm not complaining, but it's kinda odd.

What's the diff. between mk2 and mk3? I confused.
