Dual screen for producing?

I'm thinking of buying a second 17" monitor.
How many of you are using dual screens for producing?
What do you use it for?

Been doing it for a couple of years now. I could never go back to 1 monitor! I set up Cubase with the arrangement on the left (main) monitor and the mixer on the right.

Can't work with one anymore. Two is way more productive. Saves you a lot of time swiching between diefferent app screens or whatever you throw at it..

I work with 2 aswell. Can't do with one anymore.

yep, i love to use 2 screens!

and will switch soon to 2 acer 2021ms (20" TFTs with a resolution of 1600x1200 )

dual screens is teh rocks... I am definitely gonna get dual-screen.. its practical.. looks damn good and proffesional... its important to have 2 identical ones though imo..

For me the amount of time saved is not worth the amount of money spent, but whatever makes you happy.

I think dual screens really work well.

But, I have been using 1 screen up until now and I can't really say that adding a second one is worth paying the extra $300-400 for.

Buy a refurbished/second hand monitor for your secondary one then. In TO you should be able to find a 17" for well under $100 CAN. A 19" will probably run you $120-$150 CAN. Unless you plan on doing high-end graphic work on your secondary monitor, you don't need it to be a super high-end monitor. As long as you've already got a video card that supports it, a 2 monitor solution can be cheap!

On a related note, my dual head card is showing it's age. Anyone have any recommendations for a current video card that does dual monitors without any problems? Preferably under $150 US?

Dual monitors r0x. No doubt.

But it's good for other things other than producing. Watching a DVD on one and using the net/chatting on the other.. priceless. No need for an extra TV this way.

Any decent card with two outputs can do the trick, so there's a big chance your Ti can do it too. I got a Ti4400 myself and it works flawlessly.

Even if your secondary output is a DVI one, you can use a regular DVI to CRT DB15 adaptor.

Although personally I must say for professional Dual (and even Triple or Quad) screen setups Matrox still gets my vote (their 2D quality is still unrivalled).

I believe the entire Geforce FX series has both an SVGA and DVI output. DVI is what the 2nd monitor connects to (VIA a DVI to SVGA adapter)

Yeah! I agree with Alanzo! Beside doing production, there are lots of thing you can use for.

I uses ATI Radeon 9200.

If space is allow, I go for triple monitor setup. Somehow, I dun like LCD because of the colour setting. I had both different colour setting on both diferent model of my LCD. I would rather go back buy CRT monitors. Save lots more then having LCD.

I can actually dual monitor with my laptop and desktop monitors, but since my laptop soundcard is junk i don't use it for my music production.,,

Can you get a used LCD for 100? i don't have room for a crt on my desk

Can I have a different wallpaper on both screens?

Not likely. www.factorydirect.ca has some refurbished LCDs for about $250. That's the cheapest I've seen...

I have a Gforce too and will also buy a second monitor. Good to know that it works with that adapter.

If you're still looking for a good dual-monitor video card, I just happened to pick up an ATI All-In-Wonder 9600 which has two VGA outputs, plus it also has video inputs if you want to record from SVideo or composite inputs. Got it for under $200, but what really blew me away is the color saturation is BEAUTIFUL! Everything is amazingly vivid on my CRT now and I love it =) Hope this helps.
