[collab] Ethereal vs Tyler C - BluStorm

After my first collab with SoM, I realize that there's so much to learn from other producers and other styles. This new piece of music made from a fusion of different talents (Tyler C's and mine) continues to drive this point.

It was fun working on this one, and we're both pretty happy with the results: BluStorm

Click Here and it is the first song on the list (DL or stream)

Enjoy.

Edit: Updated with a different sample as I was warned of "steal-ibility" of the one I had up.

You already know what I think of this one. Dreamy melody and gangster breakbeats.

nice background fx/synths...
i like that string in the background...keeps the track movin...
sweet leadsynth/mellow...
percs are basic, but well done...

nice track you have collabed over there!

Posted by Mane on Jan-10-2005 21:50:

wow amazing track it has really nice vibe , melodies are very good too maybe that one sound in breakdown is hmm to loud and has too many disortion??? dunno but you should do something with it , great breakbeat overall nice track

Posted by EtherealSL on Jan-10-2005 23:23:

thanks for comments so far... Mane, i was thinking the same exact thing, i believe i filtered in that lead a lil to early in the breakdown because the plucked, pads, and bass pad sounds great by themselves

we'll see what other criticism is offered and we will make the necessary tweaks

Posted by Subtle on Jan-10-2005 23:42:

like the clap.. percs are very nice.. firm quality.. the melody has a good and sad atmosphere to it.. althought it might scream a tiny little too much.. sounds like V-Station.. after the break it kicks in pretty good.. maybe a longer breakdown.. the second break has an awesome wicked breakbeat in it... lol.. a little to much BT maybe? just love the melody in this track though.. If u would like to provide the MIDI for remix purposes that would be nice.. great work.. peace out

thanks for all the great comments guys. i'm pretty proud of this one myself

we'll definitely go back and do some minor tweaking depending on the comments we get.

thanks Mike, but I can't take all the credits for the breakbeat section. Tyler pretty much layed the breaks out and I did the chopping and pitch automation. It was a joint effort that turned out awesomely, imo. I'm glad you liked them too.

hahahha, yea maybe a little too much BT. But honestly, i can't think of any BT tracks besides the famous "flaming june" and a dnb remix of "knowledge of self" that's on dieselboy's latest album. I have to say, all my inspiration for breaks come from drum n bass music, and the skipping can be attributed to both BT and DnB (moreso the latter, especially with what Exile's been doing lately, that guy is just awesome).

and as for the MIDIs, here they are in the attached zip, anyone can download but if you plan to do a remix please send a PM, just letting us know

MIDIs here!!

any more comments/criticism are welcome

+1

quality stuff ! very nice beat and synths.

Posted by J.L. on Jan-12-2005 10:07:

top stuff.

Breaks are absolutely amazing. I loved it. Really don't have much else to say about this. Quality.

Posted by Luke Terry on Jan-12-2005 10:27:

cool stuff. i feel that the build arpeg synth could come in after a fill or summat rather than filter in.

the build doesn't really offer much of a hook to grab any real attention early on in the track

breaks are spot on

Posted by thoughtlessjex on Jan-13-2005 03:42:

I like the bassline.

Have you guys centered the track? The waveform favors the bottom of the display when the bass and kick are in there.

Ooh! Who did the distorted progression in the breakdown? I love that.

Yeah, definite BTesque stuff on those breaks. Those alone make the song. Everything else is nice. But the breaks take all of the cake.

the first breakdown was more chilled and just lead back into the main section without any major buildup

however, the second breakdown offered an aggressive beats section into a much biggere buildup back into the lead

that's what we were goin for... dunno if it was as evident as we intended it to be

samples are often deceptive mate

hm...that seems kinda strange. we haven't done anything with the panning of the track, but i'll look into it.

thanks, you're more than welcome to do a remix (if you are, just let me know) midis are on the first page of this thread

breaks... really can't say much, mainly have a basic breakbeat pattern with occasional variation on the last quarter of each bar, then taking the wav file that is generated from exporting the beat and chopping that.... oh wait, have i said too much????

i'm surprised at the amount of responses to this track, really glad you guys liked it!

*bumpidy*

updated the sample. some minor structural changes and some new sub-melodies. sounds a lot fuller now. enjoy.
