trebas inst.
hi just wanted to know if anyone here goes to trebas other then sgt foo. is it worth going? im thinking of applying for the april session. im interested in taking the recorded music production course. i am still searching for more schools, if anyone here knows any other schools plz help. thank you.

I have a friend that took Recording and Production there...he said he could've learned everything on his own + a book or two ...without the $10,000 debt
You get to use some awseme equipment though.
Iam doing my last term at Trebas for audio angineering.
My opinion of the school: not a bad school overall,but they are not very organized.I thought some of the stuff was a waste and the school went through some big changes alot of teachers left and we didnt have any new teachers for some classes for a few weeks.
My advice go see all the schools before you choose,I heard Harison institude(not sure about the name) is a good school but yo dont get to learn about different studios since you only be working at the studio in school in the whole year.Good thing about Trebas is that you get to see other studios and work with different equipments.
Overall Trebas is a good school but abit disorganized.

if u got a checkbook and you can breathe, youre accepted to trebas
check some other schools out..even outside Toronto if youre interested in production and engineering
check out Harris, after all, coneections are the number 1 thing in the industry, and with about every second professor at Harris holding a few Juno awards..you cant go wrong

thanks everyone for the advice and tips. i have already done a tour of the school. but when i was touring their studios, i found that most of their equipment was related to televison/media sound engineering. the counselour/advisor (whatever you call them) was convincing me to take the audio engineering instead of the recorded music production course. i am thinking of checking out harris institute as well. drasko (drale) has reccommended that i chek it out. well lets see what happens, thanks again.
My advice... find a program with an internship. Then get placed at a post sound facility like Deluxe (with the Sound Dogs) or DAVE or Access Post Audio or Tattersall sound. If you get hired on, you'll be making union money - at least $1200 a week for sound editing for TV or Film. Work experience will take you farther than your education. My friend George was a teacher at Trebas on the weekends and worked at Deluxe. Trebas will take your money and send you on your way. Get a program with the internship. That's the key. I work in the industry, so if there's any other advice or a recommendation I can give, let me know! I once gave an intern here a recommendation for Tattersall sound, and he's a working editor now (making about $1800 a week on Films - check the DGC guide for union rates). All of the editors I know have their own protools systems and make music at home in their home studios. You can charge thru the nose for equipment rentals, too.
the school has great gear for learning to use ProTools.. which is rather important. They have some very good credited teachers, but the school remains quite dis-organized. It's true there's alot that can be learned from a book, but how would you know WHAT to learn for your field of work?... there's lotsa choices for schools.
I chose trebas mostly b/c of the price over other schools which would need me to move out for the program... and because of the studios I got to learn in.

i would like to ask...how does the student loan work...and whats the name?...i remember drale told me...but i forgot.
If anyone could direct me to the site...or what number to call for more info on student loans...much appreciated

Harris institute! coupled with lots of hands on experience! That's my advice to you!
