Bush to DC residents: Bite me
What private funds?
Your mama, DC!

| (snip) D.C. officials said yesterday that the Bush administration is refusing to reimburse the District for most of the costs associated with next week's inauguration, breaking with precedent and forcing the city to divert $11.9 million from homeland security projects. Federal officials have told the District that it should cover the expenses by using some of the $240 million in federal homeland security grants it has received in the past three years -- money awarded to the city because it is among the places at highest risk of a terrorist attack. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dy...-2005Jan10.html |
They should tell him he cant be inauguratted, till he stumps up the cash..up front..hhmmmm..that should work shouldnt it?
oh yeah forgot to mention..up front..in cash..dollar bills
I don't see any problem with it.
The federal government wants the city to use federal money to pay for the inauguration. It's not like they're asking the city to use all of the money, only roughly 5%. If there was an attack on the president or the motorcade, I'd probably consider that to be a terrorist activity, even if it was from a domestic source. Basically the government is asking DC to use the money that it gave the city to prevent terrorist activity, money the government gave DC for that purpose.
Besides, how much money do you think this event will generate for DC anyway?
what will happen is the city will itemize costs accrued during the event and will present a bill to the government, as opposed to a lump sum prior to.
people in DC have money?
(not counting georgetown)
Wow...talk about wanting the cake and eating it too!
Good job Bush!
Well, George has a concern there with the fact that D.C. was murder capital of the world for years.
Hell, it might still be. BTW, who holds the crown these days as the murder captial of the world?

Oh wow ... all those people are going to come down and revitalize our hotdog stand industry ... I'm so incredibly excited. Particularly since all these visiting assholes are going to completely clog the roadways, forcing myself, and every other industry in the DC metro area to unproductively leave early, wasting hundreds of thousands of dollars as a byproduct, just to get home at a reasonable hour. I for one, am so greatful to use my local tax dollars, that I thought would be spent on "useful" initiatives such as education or crime, are in fact being spent on making sure the President's congratualtions party will go off without a hitch.

I stayed down there a few times when lobbying and had to walk all the way to Chinatown to eat at the Chinese TGI Fridays or Chinese Texas BBQ. At least there's always plenty of condiments and disposable cameras available on those carts! |

On a serious note, I think Northern Virginia will be reaping the rewards of the influx of money from guests. Georgetown will be the only place in the city that guests will probably stay. Wouldn't it be nice to have that kind of money? |

Here's a few links to a few nice homes I pulled up in a quick search: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 This doesn't include NoVa (Fairfax being the wealthiest in the US - per capita) or Chevy Chase, Bethesda, Rockville, or Potomac, Md. |
