South America

is definately the place to be for dance music. With Europe and North America drying up, South America is a fresh and relatively new market for electronic music. From Creamfields in Buenos Aires, to the Love Parade in Chile and the huge festival that just passed in Colombia.

I think its because South Americans are not yet obssesed with regressive restrictions and political interference like what has happened in Europe and NA. I think it may have to do with a) the fact you can pay people off for these things and B) Many south americans know what it is like to live without freedom and cherish every ounce of it under new governments. (Argentina's 21 years of democracy and Chile's 2 decades after pinochet come to mind)

It amazed me when i was at creamfields how a festival with 35,000 people could take place in the middle of such a large city like Buenos Aires. In Canada where I am from you cant even hold it in a field in the campo without some farmer complaining about noise and shutting it down.

It's encouraging to hear those type of comments about our scene in latin america.

Electronic music is getting big in latin america because its style goes along very well with our style of living, remember, we're latin, we're party people !!

Exactly! Im envious. North Americans dont have the same spirit and our society is very restrictive both socially and through government. Don't let what you see on TV fool you.

i know what you mean. i just moved to the states after over a year in mexico. and its a lot more cah-ray-zee i miss it.

IM surprised with how this festivals draw such huge crowds.. crowds that not even here in the states are drawn. Loveparade in Chile was done, and it draw nearly 200.000 + people... to only local DJ's, imagine what it would be like with well known DJ's, while San Francisco's love parade didnt draw not even as near... a city where this music is well known.

Yes, South America has a huge potential, and is growing largely big time... for example in Chile, you could see the DJ's coming to the country in front page of the newspapers or widely advertised... and it surprises me hence many of this DJ's are coming only for the first time. My guess is that people in south america love to party, and is just that.. it does have the trendy fashion, but is not as much as it is in North America, where the media STICKS to you what they want you to here.. down in South America, they are more open minded to many other things.
