Gig tonight - EDIT: tomor not tonight

my first big gig tonight, about 100 people are going to be there and im kind of nervous, anyway, what do you all wear when djing? more on looking good or more on being confy?

Maybe at this level it's not such a big deal. But when you play in clubs it's a lot about image.

I tend to wear designer stuff when I play but at the same time it does have to be comfortable too. If you are comfortable you will be happier ofcourse but don't look like a bum either.

Cheers
Nem

GOOD LUCK!!! RELAX, and remember to... HAVE A GOOD TIME !!!! You'll do great. Your going to mess up, but hey everyone does, just keep your sh*t together, and keep on making the dancefloor move!!!

be comfortable... dont' have to look all trendy... your not there to do that, your there for a job, so you wanna be comfortable so your feel good when your up there. but yeah, don't look like a bum... t-shirt and jeans and sneakers are fine.. but nice stuff, not sh*t you'd wear to cut the grass...

GOOD LUCK, let us know how it went !!!

I like to wear strange stuff like a wrinkled designer button down shirt and a blazer and some baggy khakis and sandals or something like that. Wear whatever the hell you want.

I wear unusual things, something someones not seen in a entertainer before, gets more attention and lets me be myself and wear how i feel like wearing. I wear really flamboyant clothes(yes yes yes),why because i am who i am. Dont focus to much on what people are telling you wear what you want, screw pressure and public image and how everyone is percieved to be seen. Pink rocks the shit outta every color.

go naked.

seriously: wear something comfortable, which wont limit your ability to move (dont wear tight shirts and pants)

good luck

Whats wrong with tight shirts? Do you want people to wear shirts that are XXXXXXXL, like rappers have t-shirts that are larger then themselves. Tight shirts are shirt that actually trully fit people, because theres a stitch mark on the shoulder where it goes to the sleve, and its suppose to be even with the shoulder not at your arm.

Tell that to the 100's of other dj's that wear tight shirts, that includes me.

Good luck man, let me know how it went when you get back.

eh, there are a couple of sizes between tight and XXXXXXXL.

I like a lil space between my shirt and me....but its all good.

actually its the other way. if you have no muscle or just a little bit you will wear the smallest shirts which you can find, so that way you look bigger. too bad that under that shirt you only have some skin and bones...
i didnt say you have to wear XXXL just wear something comfortable

I usually wear my Pineapple shirt when I'm spinning.

Its out of control.

whats your point?

Posted by Briden on Jan-15-2005 07:50:

well, if you feel confident enough to throw down a mix go for it. but, if you can't mix reliably (like 10-20 mixes in a row 90% perfect, 99% of the time) then you are making a mistake going out in public imo.

Posted by Inertia on Jan-15-2005 11:07:

try to avoid long sleeves; or pull them up. seen waay to many people get their carts hooked on 'em accidentally. wear a hat if you have long hair (i do, and i either wear a hat or be extra careful with the headphones, as they pick you bald, that shit hurts). wear comfy shoes, you'll be standing for a long while/running to take a piss quickly. make sure you wear extra anti-perspirant if you're a nervous sweater type.

dress well though, hey, after all, it's a party, there's hookup chances. even more you being the DJ, i garauntee at least 1 girl will be interested to meet you, even if you do a shit job. (not necessarily saying that one will approach you, but one will be interested).

just do the edm clubber look, a nice tshirt (normally one with a funny oneliner, cool image, or phrase), some jeans, and sneakers like Pumas. always seems to work.

I agree with what Brinden said. I had my first gig and I wasn't totally comfortable with my skills. I completely wrecked my first transition and was ok after that but the guys that gave me the spot didn't give me another chance till 6 months down the road. Its cool though I needed that time to practice and now I have a crew and gigs lined up.

Ahh for sure. My gig was in front of 10 experienced DJs and their friends. High school kids won't know what a good mix is anyway.
