has trance lost its touch?
I know this has been discussed/contended rigorously on chatrooms, forums, privatemessages and even real life, but I want to get the low down..
What's causing songs, which come out on an daily basis, to sound like complete commercial garbagiola? Why do they taste so bland and emotionless, afterall: music is the expression of emotion. I want to keep this short and strictly to the point without making myself look cool by using big words.
Could it be, that around the time when the new millenium rolled around, and when trance was spreading, fresh producers took interest and composed their music based off previous songs (in order to be accepted)? That could explain why most trance sounds the same today, and all kicks/claps have to be within a certain likeliness.
I mean, there are tunes that make you feel good inside, but I don't know if you heard Phynn's Lucid, but that thing is original. Compared to the emotionless filler trance out there now, this actually tells you a story in itself, an impliment the dj can use to convey his feelings. The synth work is different, the melody, all of it just makes you feel refreshed!
What happened to the creativity we once could express.. creativity like 'Way Out West - Activity'?
anyways, I have my flame-resistant suit on, all comments are welcome. I want the answer
Yes.
by and large, yes it has. kthxpleasedeletethread
Thank you for your answer, but can you elaborate why? I'm starting off as a producer/dj and I noticed the problem because I myself made sure my kicks and claps were like existing trance in the scene now.
yes lost its touch a long while back
all the tunes released r to samey now
and also theres hundrerds of remixes of old tracks released each year that arent even needed.
There was alot more sophistication in trance in the years 98-02 and stand out melodic leads were usually the main highlight of a great trance song back then. 2003 was when everything got into the "rut" you are describing however I don't think the change is bad at all. It is different but it is still magical and full of emotion.
and yet another person has realized that yes, indeedeeedio trance has loost its touch... many many many times... its starting to smell...

rofl.. come on guys I want to know why
Odd. I love the music now just as much as I did when I first began listening to it. I think you guys just get to technical with this stuff instead of simply trying to enjoy it.
no
I think this is more nostalgia and bad luck finding good parties than it is a real degradation.
we are exposed to a great deal of shitty trance that is true
but there are still fun times to be had and good parties to go to
Although the crowd that is out there isn't that same crowd I imagined it was before I started going out.
I like that bedroom producers are getting more attention
Trance has largely lost its way, yes. The good news is that it's temporary.
JOOF is pushing a good sound. I still think tech-trance would save us deus ex machina, but no one seems to be pursuing compared to 2003.
please enough of these stupid as threads. when are you people gonna
give up worrying so much about "how much trance has lost its touch",
and just start looking for better music. Trance has not lost its
touch, thats just impossible. That would be like saying rock music
has lost its touch. Its just that the innovative productions that
were around 5 years ago just arent around anymore. The passion for
the music has died out a lot. MONEY ruins everything in time and
n00bs worshiping all the same djs ruins the scene. They djs know
they got their money reguardless so why are they gonna put their
heart into anything. This happens to every form of music even the
greatest forms of all time. They go through a period of glory, then
fame, and then descent. What needs to happen is what my sig. says.
The entire industry needs to work together to get what they want. I
myself know i have been looking for that new sound for years with
moderate sucess, even though none of it has ever been completely up
to date. Get over it and move on to different kinds of
music or work towards promtoing innovation in the music industry in
both dj'ing and production. PLEASE enough of these stupid threads.
Nicely put sir.
trance has lost its touch for the 1199233232 th time. it fucking sucks, bedroom djs fucking suck, the scene sucks mad fucking suck, andeverything else can go ..........u guessed it fucking suck. THe OMG I DIE crowd has ruined it as well...all u noob junkies sweating armin and markus' jock for the newest bedroom tunes selected.
I believe this has been discussed/contended rigorously on chatrooms, forums, privatemessages and even real life

When it comes down to it, it's all about what you define as trance. ive found that this is largely related to when you got into EM (this is, of course, a generality, not a rule). If you love whats going on today in the "ttrance" scene, then no, trance has not lost anything. In fact, it's probably gained. If you hate the current offerings from the genre, then yes, trance has lost it's touch.
But in the end, it's all subjective.
No.
To all those who say yes, maybe "your" sound doesn't exist anymore. Trance has def. undergone changes over the year as new sounds are developed. It's an evolution.
Yes. why ?
Too many producers are using software synths that every man and his dog (who knows how to crack reason or cubase) can get their hands on. They are then taking these sounds and remaking classic tracks with them. In history this has been done but the main tracks which did it, age of love, cafe del mar etc, the remakes always were done by skilled pro's who offered a new take on the track, oliver lieb, j00f, pvd etc etc.
Now there is a lack of inspiration in artists to make good new trance, it's mainly supersaw hell, people aren't even looking back past 2000 to see what tracks were like, they should go find stuff by dance2trance, cosmic baby, komakino, oliver lieb etc etc to see how things used to be, and how trance can work in a simple but aurally arousing way.
There are people pushing good sounds atm, as has been said before like J00F, but the problem is even what Armin said once "i dont feel obliged to make new songs cos people just download so i'll just rework a classic" Or words to that effect. that is NOT the answer, and is exactly what will get us in a mess. The reason a lot of us bash armin etc now is cos he's lazy, he's too busy looking for superstar status in USA and worldwide than producing stuff like under his Rising Star alias (Startheme and Clear Blue Moon) for example being amazing and not simple.
It's like going to say a bakery and finding out that someone has got bored so changed the recipe to your favourite indulgence, like a kick in the teeth.
Sure sounds need to progress, but american progressive (or mcprog to most of us) is not the only way things can go, but there seems to be too many people making tracks just to get played on radio shows by certain djs and not enough people making a track to please the real people who matter, those who pay a fortune to see DJs spin.
early morning rant over
^ totally agree with u Ian, bedroom producers just cater to the ASOT/GBDJB crowds and dj's hoping that they will get their tune in a Schulz mix...and thats the actual material thats considered "trance" nowadays...soem tune that a kid sat in his room busting his ass in fruityloops over just to get it played by his idols..armin/markus. Because afterall, the tunes that actually make it as "big" these days must get filtered through either of those two internet shows....if not they just arent "IN"....but as soon as avb spins it its gold.....example, whiteroom - whiteroom...what a joke, sure its not a bad track, but its the epitomy of the armada "ASOT" sound.
