Hbo

Why the hell do we get NBC and ABC and FOX and all of these other American networks and we dont get HBO which is the best channel by far??

They have all the best shows like THE SOPRANOS, CURB YOUR ENTHUSIASM, they had OZ too before but now its done, SEX IN THE CITY, SIX FEET UNDER and a shit load of other shows, many of which are award winning candidates.

Hell they even have the best made for tv movies and boxing and comedy specials and basically everything you would ever want from a tv channel and yet we dont get it here.

The closest we get is SHOWCASE which has some HBO shows which is good but fuck it I want the whole channel!!!! I dont want to have to get TMN just to watch THE SOPRANOS and I dont want to have to buy the box set for that show and all the other good shows that they have on their roster.

we probably don't get HBO because we don't live in the US just like how most American households probably don't get Showcase because they don't live in Canada ..

Ive seen HBO in every single country in the world ive travelled in. I was able to subscribe to it on cable in Argentina. The problem here folks is the CRTC.

That fine government institution that tells it's "free" citizens what they can and cannot watch. And god forbid you try and get Direct TV to watch HBO because they will fine you $20,000 or put you in jail for having an "illegal" dish.

Canada joins in the fine ranks of countries such as china, north korea, and cuba when it comes to prosecuting for receiving "illegal" signals.

The CRTC should be cut off, our networks don't need protection, they need some idea of how to ACTUALLY entertain us. Was I the only person who was REALLLY excited about the Comedy Network and Teletoon, then REALLLLY dissapointed after the 50th Jetson's/Just for Laughs re-run? And that was just in the first week!

Dude, AWESOME idea. But those things cost like, billions of dollars and shit. I'd need to save up or something... got any money I can borrow? Also, when I got one, would I need to launch it into space myself, or does NASA do that for me? Also also, would I have to pay for the launch in the latter case?

I think he means a dish. And you can get most of those programs through other channels. Get Rogers digital, and you'll see on the program guide when they play.

I love Rogers digital... especially "Huff" and "Dead Like Me".

Yeah... 3 Years later!

I think the comedy channel is just starting to play the 2002 season of south park.

Why should the government be telling us which channels we are allowed to watch anyways?

Hmm? I just watched "Huff", an HBO original programme, episodes 6 through 9 this weekend. Americans are also at episode 9 or 10 right now...

If the CRTC is really the issue here, why aren't our European counterparts so far ahead of us in television and film?

Posted by Jayx1 on Jan-17-2005 18:14:

I got HBO in Europe when i was there.

we should hav known better.. especially about Argentina .. the land of our salvation

HBO is an American premium channel, a class above network programming like NBC.

We have the Canadian equivalent... TMN. The shows are a week delayed, but that's a small price to pay to watch the quality HBO programming in Canada.

Man do I miss my illegal satellite
