-- Who the hell is "Craig Richards"?

Question Who the hell is "Craig Richards"?

I am looking at Craig Richards Essential Mix (20th June 2004) - 168 MB link on my screen and thinking, who the heck is this DJ? I was too lazy to do some research, so I am hoping the TA Massive can help me out here. What kind of music he spins, quality of his sets/productions, location, etc etc.

Thanks in advance!

Resident of Fabric - London Uk

Tech-house DJ - capable of some amazing stuff. His Fabric 15 compilation was close to the album of 2004 and his essential mix was pretty damn awesome too. If you don't like twisted, minimal stuff then you probably won't like him much at all, but if you've got an open mind and know how to appreciate intricate, well-stuctured minimal music then download it now.

Personally, I can't get enough of it.

What he said. Him + Lee Burridge = Tyrant.

Maybe he's good live, maybe his essential mix is good, maybe Fabric 1 is excellent, but Fabric 15 blows chunks. Get 09(Slam), 16(Eddie Richards), or 17(Akufen) instead. I'd stay away from 11, 14, 19, and 20 as well. Haven't heard any others.

Fabric 1 wasn't that great in my opinion, nor were a lot of the early Fabric releases even though they had some pretty big name DJs behind them. As for the others you mentioned, the Akufen one was one of the weakest of the entire series, 11 (Swayzak) was one of the best, 14 (Pullen) was kinda weak, 19 (Weatherall) was awesome if a bit disjointed and haven't heard Digweed's one yet (should be delivered in the next few days).

As for Craig Richards EM, if you don't like Fabric 15 (and sorry, but if you don't like this compilation then you're listening to the wrong sort of music - go buy an 8-ball and stick on some hard house instead) then you won't like this mix either because it's a very similar sound. I reccommend that the OP download it and decide for himself though.

I don't listen to hard house or do drugs. I like good mixes though. I can like any kind of music if it's mixed well.

Akufen's is an excellent mix cd i'm afraid. I think a lot of minimal/glitch techno is pretty boring left alone or mixed regularly. But used like in DE9, or in Akufen's fabric mix where he didn't fade tracks in or out, just played two tracks at the same time for as long as possible, makes it interesting enough to listen to. Sometimes two songs are playing for up to four minutes together. Anyway, the CD caught my attention from the first second and never dropped it, it didn't become boring, there were always new sounds entering the mix. Always keeps it interesting. There weren't any abrupt clashes you might here with normal mixing methods. The mix is like one long song. It has highs, lows, tension, and release. Which is how it should be. I don't know about within the Fabric series, but Akufen's Fabric is one of the best mix CD's i've ever heard. Up there with DE9, Garnier's X-Mix, Saunderson's X-Mix, Trancemaster Goahead 2, etc.

Like I said, Fabric 15 CD1, tracks are too boring to be playing as long as they do. They drone on and on, it becomes banal. CD2 is just a disjointed mess. He did it backwards. CD1 should have been 20+ tracks, and the second 15 or something.

Fabric 17 - Good mix CD
Fabric 15 - Bad mix CD's

So yeah, same thing I said in my first 2 posts, only more words.
