Trance Definition?

It's hard to pin-point really...
Trance has sub-gendres now at just keep splintering as time passes...

By dictionary definition:
trance (trns)
n.
1. A hypnotic, cataleptic, or ecstatic state.
2. Detachment from one's physical surroundings, as in contemplation or daydreaming.
3. A semiconscious state, as between sleeping and waking; a daze.

If I had to guess at a definition I would say something like this:
Trance:
"Eletronic music that can induce a hypnotic or mantra-like state"

I say "can induce" because not everyone likes Trance music, much like I don't like twangy country. (Remember those guys? How can you listen to that? Doesn't it give you a headache guys...)
That's my shot at it...

sorry.....

it depends on whether you're talking about solitary trance- as in when you listen alone...........or when you're with a whole party of trancers.......

I think the experience of the collective of people moving between these so called hypnotic states.........the sharing of this in space and time...is trance.

I also think of it as a continuum........never ending or beginning.
