Request for the clubs

Sorry if this is very random but I've been meaning to ask this for a while. For any club owner or person with the ability to influence/drive this, can you please serve coffee at the night clubs - set up an espresso bar some something. Seriously! I would appreciate! Or at the least give in an out access so that you can grab a cup of coffee elsewhere and come back

Comfortzone is the only place i know off giving wristbands for ins n outs.....whether u wanna go there is a different issue

Avikonen is afraid to go to CoZo. I've NEVER had a bad time there. Seen lots of crazy sh*t, tho. Good idea about the coffee! And tea!

I'll be a tea/coffee girl!

The idea of a steaming hot late (or whatever your drink is) being spilled on me is somewhat scarry Plus, usually when you serve coffee it's more chilled out atmosphere so you'll need more of a lounge setting (maybe the stage at the guv...) other than that bring it on i like coffeeeeeeeee

Posted by Pett on Jan-17-2005 21:08:

out in the smoking lounges would be nice

Having hot coffee or tea sold in clubs would be a bad idea because its bad enough that people already have the option of smashing people over the head with a beer bottle and I don't think that giving people the option of throwing hot coffee at someone during a fight would be a good idea although it would be pretty funny to someone get burned with coffee and be screaming that they are melting like the wicked witch of the west

Seriously- what clubs do YOU go to? I don't think I've seen even 3 fights in the past 14 yrs of clubbing/ raving.

Fran- I think the only club I know with a coffee bar is the 9:30 Club in DC (which is a rock concert venue). You got your booze, coffee, and food covered there. There's a kitchen right by the main bar, next to the stage of all places, where u can order good grub, no matter how packed that place gets. If they can pull that off, anything's possible.

Earplugs provided or for sale at a reasonable price would be good as well.

coffee+alcohol=nogood

Well I'm only saying that having hot coffee sold in clubs would create the possibility of someone throwing hot coffee at someone else or spilling it on them or using it in a fight in some way but how often it would actually happen I don't know but the possibility would exist.

I am more in favour of giving people ins and outs especially when many clubs don't have food or coffee VISIBLY avaiable for purchase inside of the club. I think that more clubs should have food VISIBLY available for purchase inside of their clubs and preferably for a reasonable price. Most times you can't even buy gum inside of a club and many don't even sell ciggarettes inside anymore

Posted by StereoPrincess on Jan-17-2005 22:25:

they have ina and outs at system now.

they do not have ins and outs at guv.

i think iced coffee machines should be installed everywhere.

the problem with coffee is that it takes a short time for it to go stale. And therefore, they wouldn't want to keep making it. But an Iced Cap machine would be perfect.

System, Guv & CoZo all have candy and gum for sale. Buzz/ Cubic in DC won't even let u IN the club with gum, cuz sadly, many people aren't too concerned about where they put it when they're done chewing. Who wants to clean all that ABC gum, anyways?

When Seven nightclub opened up, I went there to photograph it, and there was this one beautiful modern white acrylic chair. I had to inform the manager that there was a nice cigarette burn in the chair, thanks to some negligent jerk. It wasn't my club, or my chair, but it made me mad that something so beautiful and expensive was ruined in a such a short time.

As far as coffee being used as a 'weapon'... these days anything can be considered a weapon. The Docks security told us we couldn't bring in a sharpie marker, claiming it could kill someone if used properly. Whatever, dude!

GREAT IDEA! I bet at the guv the owner would not have a problem with Purchasing a Tim Horton Iced Cap machine - since he owns so much in TO already!!!

True about the stale taste after a short wheil with Coff - but at least witha Cap machine it would stay fresher, longer, and yummy for a longer while and NO chance of burnin' the tender tounge!

did u know they are free at GUv??? Tatgirl klindly introduced me to that AND at System you can buy them for 2$ I think!!!! keep that in mind if you forget yours at home!

Ciao bouys and gurls!

NOT ME~ and I wouldn't wanna step in it EITHER!@!! especially in my new boots!

Thanks guys for the feedback. here's my follow-up:

* I would take a restriction on the coffee location - that is - yes, put in the smoking lounge or somewhere and limit people from walking far from it. I agree that walking around with a hot mug is a hazard. I think it's fair and acceptable to limit where you could walk around with it.

* Red bull or other similar drinks is not a good substitute for coffee. There is something about the aroma and taste that helps keep you alert. It's the ritual not just the caffeine.

* On a sober night, coffee REALLY HELPS So please put in an espresso machine. There is a market for this - believe me! Or let people go in and out so that they can grab a cup.

They do? I know they'll give you a stamp to go out to the patio, but I don't think you can get back into the club with that if you leave.

With regards to the topic at hand:

Some clubs sell iced tea, but why would you want coffee/tea? If you need your caffeine fix there are many caffeinated beverages and other energy drinks available. I'm not in the club biz but a coffee bar sounds cost-prohibitive to me; you have to buy the brewing equipment, make space for it, keep making it every 20 or 30 minutes, and it's going to take longer to serve than other drinks. Plus the bartenders have to be more careful with it than they would be with regular drinks.

Not that I'm against it, I might even have a cup on occasion, I just can't see it happening. Red bull actually has more "alertness" ingredients in it than coffee, since it's got Taurine in addition to the caffeine - I think any advantages coffee has over red bull are purely psychological. Personally I find red bull to do a much better job, but obviously the psychological factor is still important when you're talking about mental alertness...

P.S. as for the "coffee + alcohol = no good" comment - ever hear of REV, Vbase, that sort of thing? They sell them at almost every club.

ive seen three fights at the guv in the past 6 within the past 5 months. i seem to be at the right place at the right time. the people i feel sorry for are the ones that get tossed out of the way by the bouncers.

i saw a doctor this morning about the ringing in my ears (sometimes ring for two days), and she highly recomended that i start using ear plugs as ringing for long periods of time is a sign that permanent damage is being done, its good to know now that the clubs have them upon request.
so do you just ask for them at the bar?

They are located at the candy / food booth at the Guv in the main entrance hallway.

This is THE BEST PART of the entire community. I love it SO SO MUCH. I can't go to regular bars anymore.

Yea, you can do ins and outs in System, but you can't bring in food/drink. So it wouldn't be of help to the coffee drinkers unless they polished the whole coffee off before they re-entered the club.

you get a different stamp if you go out to the front. i have done it a few times. many people go and eat souvlaki and come back.

Speaking of coffee machines . . .

There used to be this stand alone, all-in-one, coffee vending machine--about the size of a regular soft-drink vending machine, where you put in 50 cents and after a minute of grinding/crunching/brewing get a urine-sample sized cup of the most foul tasting brown coffee ever inflicted upon mankind--in the lounge at my old law school. Being law students, however, meant we drank that stuff by the gallon. One day, we walk into the lounge and see the machine roped off with yellow, State Health Department, caution tape. The next day, its gone completely and an exterminator is spraying the area where the machine used to be. We find out later that the machine was infested with roaches.

The point of my story? I have none. Just happy to share.
