Quite funny. I hate the ipod as well. Tried out my friend's and I was not impressed. 12 hr batteries, no on the fly playlist functionality, sketchy sound quality, software compatibility issues. And besides, it is more of a cultural revolution than a technological one.

I'm waiting for the next generation of mp3 players to buy myself one. Hoping that Creative will come out with a slicker Creative Zen.

Maybe I am biased. Im on creative & iriver for mp3 players. iPod is pretty much for trend whores imo. Lotsa ppl here got it is giving me the feeling that they bought it just to join in the 'trend', show off, imo.

I think they are to expensive anyways - maybe when they go down to 50$ bucks like in 5 years - then i will get one - I like my mini me Disc (MD player: )

Guys-

In all seriousness, what is currently the best mp3 or portable device out there for playing music? I have a Mini Disk Player, but stopped using it and am seriously considering jumping the band wagon and succumbing to purchasing one. I like the allure of being able to store tons and tons of dj sets on one single piece of condensed technology.

Not true. Press and hold the center button for two seconds to place the currently playing song in an "on the go" playlist.

Damn I was gonna get me an ipod shuffle too!! If only I realised that I could spend 4 times the amount and buy some post-it notes I'd have done this sooner

I'm not anti-iPod... I think they look very nice, and if I could justify the price difference between Creative and iPod (which I can't right now) I would go for the Apple option. However, it's all those trendy n00bs with more money than sense, and probably a playlist full of commercial trash that have brought the status of owning one nothing special tbh.
