to extract some sort of humour from war/conflicts isn't that bad.
I mean look at the Team America movie.

Team America pokes fun more at American Ignorance than anything. Alot of people fail to realize that the real joke in the "Durka Durka" vocabulary is not making fun of their language, but of American perception. Trust me, the South Park creators are intune with what's going on in the world and Team America is a mockery of themselves as Americans. America! FUCK YAH!!

Where many Americans were offended by Team America, it was a joke directed at themselves. Kinda like that converted Jewish dentist in Seinfeld. The mid-east situation is too serious for anybody to make a mockery of themselves, or to have anybody from the outside make a mockery of them.

The movie takes a pretty neutral stand actualy. I think Dicks, pussies, and assholes summed it up pretty well

Well that's clearly the greatest commercial ever created.

Seriously, I love it.

I'm not a van of Volkswagen by any means (stupid goddamn electrical systems, overpriced, poor build quality), but their marketing/advertising department sure is creative.

Posted by dEsidEL on Jan-18-2005 05:44:

i can see where the humor was supposed to lie, but honestly i didn't laugh

i think it was intentionally made to create controversy, etc.. time will tell

Posted by Pett on Jan-18-2005 05:49:

pretty stupid if you ask me , what were they thinking?

Posted by hardcore trancer on Jan-18-2005 05:58:

Fuckin idiots who made this. Intresting how starchaser thinks this is funny I dont see you laughing when there is a suicide attack in Isreal.

Posted by tatgirl on Jan-18-2005 06:26:

Is this commercial for REAL? I can't see VW really doing that. Poor taste? Yes. Can I still chuckle at it? Sure.

Just like this is in really bad taste, but it made me laugh many a time.

Posted by monishb on Jan-18-2005 06:33:

i know you didnt mean to offend anyone starsearcher, but its still kind of silly to make a sucidal ad to market cars!

either way everyone has their own thoughts on it, i see the diffrences on the sarcasm levels here.

but i still think that is stupid by no means hilarious, just a mockery , still see no point in killing oneself sitting in car has to do with the ad.

maybe he just ate a pizza pocket

Posted by karim on Jan-18-2005 06:46:

I guess it's safe to say that if you do chuckle at this ad, your taste in humour is very lacking. This holds as much offensive power to Palestinians as holocaust jokes do to the European Jew. It's bad karma to spread this video around simply to humour some, knowing very well it may offend people on the way.....

Didn't VW supply Nazi Germany with MANY MANY automobiles at the time? Oh the irony.......

Marketing teams come up with these over the top, very controversial style of advertising that spread their way like wildfire over the internet. Ford came out with one that shows a cats head getting chopped off, and trojan came out with one called the "sex olympics". However, this ad confuses me cause it doesn't do anything but hurt the companies image. It doesn't look extremely low budget/home made either. I'm curious as to who made this and who told them to?

this was obviously targeted towards a jewish audience perhaps because not many jewish people support german car comapany's due to world war II

I dont really find it humorous either

Posted by Euphorica on Jan-18-2005 07:15:

that ad sucked

i don't think it's fair to say that it was targeted directly at a Jewish audience .. besides, if i was a family member of someone who died in a suicide attack and saw this commerical, i highly doubt i'd find it too amusing ..

Well bascially you see this guy walking down the steps of a town-house (leaving his place i guess) getting into the VW Polo and driving off...you see him driving down the streets and you see people at a cafe patio having some coffee, reading newspapers and etc. Then this same guy pulls up in the VW Polo, the camera zooms on his upper body in the car, he looks down (now you can see he has a bomb strapped to his body), he pulls up a detonator and presses the button - you see him explode inside the car but everything else is ok...and then you see the VW logo and it says - VW Polo, "small but tough" or something like that

I agree it's pretty bad but I think it's healthy in a way to poke fun of such things. Especially for people like the Israelis that live with that stuff I think it's especially funny for them. You get somewhat of a twisted sense of humour after things like that but either way I guess it's not for everyone (Not really sure how to explain it)

Posted by Kaz on Jan-18-2005 16:49:

Pretty tasteless IMO

Posted by RobbyG. on Jan-18-2005 18:37:

I am surprised that VW would even CONSIDER an ad like that to begin with .I mean if you want people to buy your product then why would you alienate a group of potential purchasers.
