Chicago: Gabriel & Dresden are coming back Feb 26th

I have it on good authority that Gabriel and Dresden are coming back to Chicago on February 26th. I assume they will be playing at Vision. Hopefully we'll get an official announcement soon.

Since 2/26 is a Saturday. Vision would be the venue. Don't think I'd make the show. Don't feel like paying $20 for a 3 hour nap!!

COOL!

I have yet to see them live and I love most of the stuff they do. I know how some people feel about them and understand why, but I am happy they will be back!

Saw them 2/28/04 with Holden. They were nothing to talk about.

For what it's worth, I really dig G&D, and I think if you're a fan of any of their production/remixes you'd enjoy the show.

That being said, I know a lot of people who just "kind of like" or "don't really like" G&D who have been to their shows and said they were really dissappointed...

I'll be there for it... but then again, I really enjoy G&D live.

So there, I'm sure I didn't really help anone with that, just bored at work tossing my 2 cents into the ring.

Peace, Cheers,

RJT

Despite what I hear that they're kind of boring, I would probably go to this and give them a chance since I really enjoy their productions and also really like Bloom. I've never seen personally so we'll see what I think if it happens.

Posted by wolverine16 on Jan-19-2005 05:38:

They do play a lot of their own productions, so expect to like the tracks they play if that's your thing. They played a number of tracks of Bloom last time @ Vision, though there didnt seem to be the energy that a lot of shows have. I may go, but it seems suddenly like there's a lot of shows coming up that are worth checking out.

Posted by D&GGIRL on Jan-19-2005 06:06:

I'm sure I would enjoy it and I guess I could see the energy not being the same for them as it would be for some of the bigger names such as Ferry, Armin, etc... Yea, my list of shows that I want to go to keeps getting longer. So much for taking it easy before the WMC.

Holden was amazing that night. G&D had big shoes to fill following that set. IMO, they didn't do it. I did get alot of much needed rest during that set though.

Yawn.

no thanks

I love Bloom - but the speak here is not getting me that excited to see them live. They may just be better suited for productions?

If they came to Milwaukee I woudl go fo sure.

i do agree that their set following Holden last year in february was not that great, which had shocked me because i had some G&Ds sets from radio shows and whatnot that i had really liked. but JMC is right, they had huge shoes to fill that night.

here's the way i see it... don't let one set ruin your opinion of a DJ. any DJ has their good and bad nights. not to mention, that set after Holden was a year ago! i'm sure G&D have progressed as DJs since then. personally i happen to like their productions and really liked the track selection on Bloom. i will probably check them out next time they are in town.

also, i know a lot of people say that G&D are boring because all of their productions/remixes have "that same G&D sound". i don't think that is neccesarily a bad thing. if you like the G&D sound then it's all good. a lot of other DJs have distinct sounds, and it doesn't make them boring (one in particular i can think of is James Holden - i can almost always recognize a Holden production/remix in a set).

people should form their own opinions of DJs, and not just follow along with what everyone else thinks.

I really liked their shows. I thought they had good energy and I enjoyed hearing their tracks live. I'm a big fan of their music so maybe I'm biased a bit.

Tracks I want to hear:

Resurrection remix
Arcadia
Fallen
Beautiful things

If I can hear those 4 I'll be set.

Absoulutely agree!! From what I've heard and seen from G&D, I just don't care from them. I know that there are many of you that do enjoy their sound, I'm not one of those people though.

At least this isn't like the whole Tij debate!!

G&D's approach to DJing these days is completely different from what it was a year ago. They actually work TOGETHER behind the decks now instead of it just being like Dave for 45 minutes then Josh for 45 minutes and so on.

They moved to this style in September 2004.

Some duos would actually call it a live act or something. Josh works the laptop while Dave works the mixer.

I've only seen them once live since they started their new thing and it was easily the best set I had ever heard from them live out of five or six times (all within the previous 8 months). Their programming, beatmatching, and so on was jus awesome and had the best set out of the lineup that night as they played with Junkie XL and Christopher Lawrence. Various reports from a few other gigs they have done also report them being outstanding since the change.

So if you heard them pre-September 2004, expect things to be a bit different from them in how they approach their sets. That's unless they decided to go back to their old style.

Motorcycle is playing here Thursday night for free, but I dunno if G&D are actually going to DJ, too, though. If not, G&D do spin together here on Jan 28th. Can give a report to see if they have kept up the good stuff since I heard them last.

Dave

i wonder how he would reply on threads where people are bashing him!

*ponders*

it's probably a good thing he isn't a TA.

I'm sure he would have really enjoyed the one a few months about when he used to play gabber and was known as Da Joker.

I think it's probably good that Armin doesn't regularly check out TA right now.

With G&D, again, if you like their productions, you'll like their set. If not, you wont. I saw them with the setup DaveT was talking about and it works well and very clean mixing, just a bit more chill atmosphere than most shows. There's just so much going on in the upcoming months, there's not enough money to go around for every show. And some of you are going to Miami too?!?!?!

He'd probably think something along the lines of:

"I'm a multi-millionaire who played the Olympic games and can have all the women and narcotics I want.

I win.

Peace,

Tijs"

Ugh, Arcadia is starting to grow on me.

Dave - if you promise to play the 911 Vocal of Someone Like You I'll show up to this sporting a shirt championing you and Josh.

Arcadia is probably my favorite song on Bloom. They played it last time at Vision and it sounded even better live. I hope to hear it again - as well as Resurrection.

I know. The only ones I plan on going to before WMC are Deep Dish, JZ and Warren. Morillo is going to be up in the air since I don't want to deal with the possible weather conditions.
