I haven't checked them out yet, but I have to give you props just for undertaking the nightmare of programing an FM synth.

Nice thanks mate.

i checked them out, i really underestimated the power of fm7... Some cool supersaws and there where also some plucky analogish sounds which could be inserted in any track instantly. Really good work, will probably use some of these in the future. BTW i saw u made a rank 1 sample a few days ago, you said u did it with fm7... How? Did u use one of these presets, or what? Some chord? Please tell me

...and the big deal about programming FM synth is....?????

though, I guess I agree - FM7 have been notoriously scary for people to program. I read interview with Brian Eno in Future Mag where he said that from his talks with Yamaha repairs they told him that about 90% of the synths they get for repair did not even have patches modified. To which he said - no, that's not stupid users - that's a stupid design. You made the synth too difficult to program. (smth along those lines).

Speaking of FM synths - just picked up Yamaha DX200 for $60 - best $60 I spent in the last 4 years!

FM7 is not hard to program. the yamaha DX7 that its based on *is* a nightmare to program though. credit due to native instruments for making FM7 easier to program than the original and making it sound better and look better. but really FM synthesis is not much different from subtractive synthesis. the only difference is the way the oscillator behaves because you set 1 or more of the oscillators to modulate the frequency of the others. it works just like an filter envelope does on the filter. only on the oscillator instead. course, that means that the oscillators behave very very differently because you can work in natural harmonic oscillations. hence the bell like quality of alot of fm patches. you can make some freaky noise too if you tune the oscillators out though.

I think I'm going to make a song with nothing but these Fm7 presets, well I might add some pads from another VSTi and use z3ta for a bass.

I am really interested but I'm having trouble with your link. It says 'document contains no data' and does not open the site. If you would be so kind, please email the presets to: fruitylooper@ (NOSPAM) gmail.com
