Go buy some new records. That should straighten you out.

mixing is just like sex in that regard. somedays you want it so bad and others your just too tired to do it. you don't know why, you love doing it after all - but you're just too tired to do it. if it happens more than once a week seek help.

it's been like that for me too. But lately, people are worried about me b/c the past week i would just go home from work and mess around w/ acid with 3 loops cds i bought, sound forge, and fruityloops and make drum patterns, sample wav files, and other crap to play w/ on SSL. It's hella lotta fun to record the tv and scratch samples and make your own battle records for SSL.

Even though i suck at producing, and skratchin' im having a blast w/ junk i find and record...

Go buy ssl, and start recording crap and scratch it, trust me it's lots of fun!

2 things make me play 'suckily': not in the mood, and when I don't have new tunes.

Posted by muli on Jan-19-2005 08:10:

meh i only really mix once or twice a week, sometimes i dont mix at all.

Ive been djing for over 3 yrs, so i guess i only DJ when i have new tunes.

PLus i have a heap of other shit to do which leaves little time for mixing, and when i do have time im usually tired

Posted by ieko on Jan-19-2005 08:19:

There are some weeks where I mix everyday, sometimes I only mix once that week, or not at all. Usually because I'm tired, or I just need a break. There is a such thing as too much of a good thing, everyone needs a break now and then, also it gives some rest to your ears, the most valuable part of your hobby or career.

Sometimes i'll want to mix all day...and sometimes i wont even touch my tables for weeks.

in my opinion, its lack of new vinyl...after i get a shipment of vinyl from places, i go hardcore. After im used to them, slows down big time

more vinyl is always better. It's a never ending addiction.

i find that i'm just too busy lately to mix, i havent really done so for about 6 weeks . Even when i bought my last lot of records, i only went through them once. In between being out of the house working for 12hours a day, eating, showering, visiting family, trying t have a social life, trying to make some extra cash by selling tunes on ebay, i just dont get time

The best thing you can do that will probably make you want to start DJing again is to learn something new.

Without knowing what level you guys are on or what you do or even the medium you use it's difficult but you should try and watch some other DJs around and see if they do something that you don't and then try and work out how they did it.

Harmonic mixing is the obvious one from me (as hafl the forum roll their eyes )
But a simple thing like discovering that holding down the 33 button and tapping the 45 will give you a small burst of speed that will help with beatmatching might be all it takes.

Try and discover something new to stimulate the grey matter.

More records can just serve to make things worse if you are not in the mood.

Cheers
Nem

Mixing is not an obligation, it is something you do for fun. If you don't feel like mixing for a while, don't do it. But like Nem said, as soon as you feel like mixing, try to learn something new. That way mixing will become more interesting, because you have a challenge ahead of you.

I agree with Nem on trying something new, after years of mixing 4/4 beats I'm getting kinda tired of them (prolly lack of good trance right now) so over the past few months I been leaning towards breakbeats, I now mix those into trance and it adds that extra spice I been looking for and its a hellava lot of fun, I only really enjoy myself behind the decks now when playing breaks, hmm could this be a change for me.

somewhat same situation here... lack of good trance has spurred my discovery of DnB with all its trippy sounds and sub bass

for me new vinyl helps...

Djing is like a looong hallway lined with locked doors and each new vinyl(for the vinally addicted) is a key to a door, the more vinyl the more access you have to the different experiences and lessons behind each door... this also goes for any tricks you may learn as well as new gear, tracks you might have on a digital format, Mix CDs you buy from other DJs, etc...
