Some of you may hammer me, but...
Why do I see alot of "Before Tiesto let #1 go to his head" and other posts referring to him as some kind of stuck up, primadonna asshole? I really saw the boo birds come out in full force when he didn't show to accept his third #1 DJ Mag award, but what alot of people forget was he was trying to perfect a magic trick for T.i.C. 2 and I think that takes precedence over accepting an award. In fact, were he to have accepted the award over perfecting his show for the fans, that would have been some shit. He has become bigger than any DJ ever... ok, I'll give you that. However, can you fault him for trying to maximize not only his own potential, but that of his label, sound, and profession? After all this is the music of the masses and if he can sell out European soccer domes in only days, I say carry on. I hate to use such a cheesy cliche, but "Don't hate, congratulate." It's not his fault others aren't stepping up to the plate with similar inspiring aspirations.
Has his style changed since breaking through with his mix of silence? Sure, but whose hasn't? Does PvD, Marco, or anyone else sound the way they used to? I would say no to most and that is because, as everyone knows, styles evolve.
Another weird complaint I hear is "Oh, he sold out. He did a song with BT." SO FUCKING WHAT?!? First off, that song was and still is (IMO) badass. Second, alot of those same people probably loved it UNTIL they found out BT was in it and, third, It's not like he's remixing Justin Timberlake or anyone like that.
The last common complaint is that all the kids/ravers come out for him. Again, I reiterate, SO FUCKING WHAT?!? I agree they alter the vibe a little, but I want to be lost in the music and I won't let any punk kid with glowsticks run me off. I am here to stay and so is Tijs... my only hope is that we can enjoy his brilliance instead of doing the typical American routine of building them up to watch them fall
Thank you
Jangles
You should of put this in COR, but hey I understand on where you are coming from, u just have some anal or ignorant people that just like to free their mind and go crazy on it, just like me on house music, hey everyone is entitled to their opinion

Can't touch Tiesto.....
Or you'll be killed by his body guards....
I agree with you Jangles.
I had the honor of doing a phone interview with Tijs and then got to meet him backstage at his show in Tampa. He was very friendly and spoke very favorablly of Tampa. His manager was a bit on the pushy side, but I guess that's to be expected. But seriously, the guy is no primadonna. He's extremely successful, but still took the time to talk to a little ole Tampa Tribune reporter and even remembered my name when I finally got to meet him.
Now...Oakenfold on the other hand...
I totally agree with you Jangles, though I might differentiate with you in the fact that Im not a TRUE fan for any of the top 5 DJ's of the world heh. Sadly, we live in an envious, greedy world.. where not even in TA you will escape this. I could find critics for any DJ.. hell even PvD.. I dont know why PvD whores bash Tiesto, hence PvD attracts the same crowd.. and even repeats the songs 5 times a set.. but hey, I still love PvD gigs as much as I can love the Tiesto gigs. The thing is.. people have become Spoiled after getting the chance of receiving a whole new access of DJ's since the turn of the century.. before, no one would be bitching, but the other way around.. asking for them heh.. but hey, this seems more complex then it actually seems though.. but I understand your point.. is been explained 1000000 times.. and it wont change a thing ;-) .. one just has to adapt to it, live with it..

whatever... I still love TIESTO!!! and I probably always will regardless of what he does in the future... his past makes up for it
My bad about the JT remark. In truth, I didn't know Sander remixed him and, in all honesty, I guess it doesn't matter WHO is getting remixed because producers can add their own twist to make it legit. My point was on selling out and he was just the first mainstream pop singer to come to mind. Hell, even JC from N'SYNC had a song remixed and alot of people like it, so my point on WHO is remixed falls flat and it's shifted to HOW it is done. I didn't mean to disrespect Sander, G&D, Ferry or anyone else because I am a fan of them all as well. The only form of dance music I can say I really don't like is "hardstyle" which I was introduced to over the summer in Holland. Apparantly it is catching on over there, but it is just too aggressive for me.

Ive been saying relatively the same thing for awhile Mr Jangles, for the most part it is of no avail. The Tiesto hating will commence in future thread and so will the same old cut down and critisisms. Ive finally conceded its a fact of life in TA especially the FLTA chapter. People know i argue to the death for tiesto(read the majority of my posts, im quite relentless), but I realize it is mostly an exercise in futility, people feel the way they do, educated opinions or not. And its not that i dont agree with them on some points, its just that the same people make the same points OVER AND OVER again(sometimes in hype threads and review threads WHERE THEY DONT BELONG), thats what chaps me in the ass, and quite conversely not that they feel that way, but it usually precipitates into some kinda of bitter argument, which I now regret personally. You brought up some GREAT points, he is no primadonna ive met him before and talked to him, he was very genuine and nice , seemed very humble(maybe others have had different exps). and the fact that his stlye has changed is SO OBVIOUS and poignant at the same time, ITS BECAUSE THE MUSIK HAS CHANGED AND SO HAS HIS WITH IT(taoist philosophy, the only constant in life is CHANGE). people say he's not what he used to be, well either is the musik, so its a mute point. anyways im glad you think tiesto is as brilliant as i think he is, there are a few of us on here who are no nonsense TIESTO WHORES, so your welcome to join the club, your not alone
hopefully he comes to space for wmc and redefines the word EPIC like only he can, he's the only dj that for me can just leave me with my jaw on the floor, so lets keep our fingers crossed
peace
this thread has a whole lotta words.
I dont care about all this stuff about Tiesto... in my opinion he sucks compared to what he used to do, his potential is so much higher, but hey... why stress yourself right? People will come anyway. Personally, I dont like his flow & his track selection puts me to sleep (except some stuff he plays).
Sander > Tiesto
Case closed.

| Originally posted by Mattivi they play two totally diffent styles of musik, weak comparison, and your post furthur validates what ive been saying. i love both of them, but i think it would be an injustice to them and to the musik they represent to say one is better than the other. this kinda shit is baseless, speculative, and lame Vlad, no offense SANDER K ROCKS AND SO DOES TIESTO!!!! |
