Hold up last night...

So Im getting ready to go home last night around 6:30...all of a sudden there is a lot of noise down stairs in the branch (work for a bank in the Yonge & Eglinton area). Walk downstairs to see some guy in a Mask with a gun in his hand shouting at everyone to get down or he is going to kill everyone. 2 - 5 minutes ( which seemed like ages)he was gone....

He got away with some cash....scared the hell out of everyone here...
no matter how many times you might see a gun on TV, the minute you see one in real life... it scares the FCUK OUT OF YOU!!! no heroes then...

yeah your right , I dont know whats going on with this place...I gotta hand it to the tellers for any bank ..first they gotta take crap from the clients, then they gotta go through this...I use to be a teller a few years ago but I never had to worry about this shit..

Next time you guys go to a teller, we should be a bit more considerate cuz honestly, the pay (in 20's) is not worth this crap...

ON THE BRIGHT SIDE..... THE BANKS BUYing LUNCH! WOOHOO!! what can I say Im easy.....

Posted by starsearcher on Jan-21-2005 17:45:

Tellers get paid in the 20's? damn...that's not so bad at all

I was one person behind a in queue at the Royal Bank on Bank & Queen in Ottawa, waiting for my turn... I see a man doing his thing (didn't think anything of it) at one of the tellers, and then leave. The teller that had served the man in question appeared visibly distraught and went hurriedly to another workmate. Immediately, one of the bank employees walks swiftly to the doors and locks them.

We then were told that the bank had just been held up.

There was no visible weapon, in fact I had no idea what was transpiring until it had already happened and the perpetrator had fled the scene. We waited around for the police and everyone who had been waiting in queue gave their statements.

Quite an experience, nonetheless. Something not to be forgotten... Hope you're not too shaken by the whole ordeal.

our entire economy and society suffers because of this.

Nothings changed. Bank holdups have happened in Toronto since banks were opened here.

My dad got held up in 1989 at a branch.(he was the manager) He had a sawed off shot gun stuck in his face.

I think 24 hour news, increased number of media outlets, and scare tactic reporting is what has changed. That and the fact that you are now out in the real world as opposed to when you were a kid and that stuff always happened "somewhere else".

I remember when Cecelia Xiang was abducted and everyone was going on about "how can this stuff happen? This city is going to hell!" and everyone was keeping their kids indoors. (the still do).

Meanwhile i grew up in the town next to where Christine Jessop disappeared in 1984. I remember the hystaria but no one ever thought about keeping kids inside for the rest of their childhood. And to this day the real killer has never been caught.

Buddy...We live in a city with 4 million ppl...

Everytime someone asks what this place is turning into, it drives me nuts...

In a HUGE metropolis like ours, there are going to be arguments, conflicts, robbings, and shootings...It can't be helped..That's human nature...

Banks have been robbed ever since the first one opened hundreds of years ago...

And I think he meant tellers are paid in the 20's as in yearly not hourly...

Walkingdude...

I too am glad no one was hurt...The no hero policy is the best one..It sure as hell isn't your money so y risk your life by confronting...

As an armed guard, we are told to just do as the robber says..AND WE CARRY OUR OWN GUNS!!!...to be used if it is absolutely necessary...

Did you pick that avatar after the fact or b4???

"Gosh goodely doodely neighbour...really tickled pickeled that you weren't hurt..."

How's that

It's a good thing you all stayed composed and no one took unnecessary risks.

drgoodvibe makes a good point about our economy and society suffering from all of this. It is so totally bringing the city down when this crap happens.

The last time I saw a gun up and close....it was pointed at a cabby...and it all ended very bad.
I tell you, nothing is more scary than hearing a bullet rip through the air past your ear. It really makes you think about things more clearly.
