Lightbulb BLAST FROM THE PAST: ChronoTrigger/ChronoCROSS

Anyone love these old games? I did a search of this Gaming forum and couldn't find a thread on it, so I decided to make one.

ChronoTrigger happens to be a game that many RPGers STILL love to this date. My fav. char in that was Magus.

ChronoCROSS: A very different kind of sequel, but I still love this game to death. The battle system was vamped weirdly. But I like how they made this game, and the CGI cutscenes are beautiful. The true ending is also one of my favs.

Your thoughts on these games?

Chrono Trigger is an absolute classic. I grew up on this game, I had mastered it in every way conceivable. I still have the SNES cartridge. Oh, and the two posters that came with the original boxed version are hanging up right behind my monitor.

Chrono Cross is a wicked game. A lot of people don't seem to like it... they feel it doesn't tie in with CT. They either weren't paying attention or didn't get more than half way through the game. I just loved the feel of the game tho... so much color and detail, plus an amazing soundtrack. Very sad too, in a lot of places. Good stuff.

Yeah, I also have my SNES cart for ChronoTrigger. I used to have the box around here somewhere.

And I agree with what you said about ChronoCROSS. Soundtrack was great, sad and just felt right. When it was first coming out, I did a pre-order for it and they gave me a ChronoCROSS clock, which I still have. I would love for a third installment to be made, but let me say, even though the game didn't 'seem' to tie in with ChronoTrigger, it sure as hell did. Those people who said otherwise obviously didn't give the game a chance.

CT was awesome, I loved it. I wish I still had my SNES to play it. CC I never tried though

I hate people who expect stories to be spoon fed to them.

You can still play CT if you get Final Fantasy Chronicles for PS1, Ben.

chronotrigger is the only rpg i never got all of the endings before and its still fun to play on emulators. The music, gfx, and story is the best of its class. Better than some rpg on ps2/pc

Crono speaks in one ending

Chrono Trigger is one of the few RPGs on the S-Nes I was missing. I'm still waiting to stumble over it in the Cash Converter store. Like I did with Secret Of Mana and Secret Of Evermore, those old RPGs rule. Do you also know and like them or are you just into Chrono Trigger?

i have soe and som as well. ive beaten som like 10 times. ive also beaten som2 which was only released in japan. it would have been som2 if it was released in the us but i think its the 3rd one in japan.

Bump.

Anyone here really dig the music in the Magic Kingdom of Zeal in ChronoTrigger? That's one of the best BGM's I have ever heard. I'd LOVE for someone to take that and make it into a trance remix.

The music in the Dead Sea in ChronoCROSS, it was so perfect for that setting. I don't want to put any spoilers in this thread, but when you reach your ultimate destination in the Dead Sea, the music is fitting and emotional. This game is so under-rated...I really love it!

If you get the 'real' ending in ChronoCROSS, you see just how deep this game is. I really do hope for a 3rd part in the Chrono series.

Apparantly Square registered the trademark on "Chrono Break" some time ago.

If anyone ever made it to the Dead Sea in ChronoCROSS, I wonder if they ever felt anything emotionwise, as it relates to the story.....

(^....did that make any sense?)

Turns up they've yet to do anything with it.

Yay for nerdy Lucca...

I wish Robo still existed, though.

SPOILER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In the ChronoCROSS storyline, Robo's other name was Prometheus. He had something to do with the Frozen Flame and its misplacement.

Chrono Cross's soundtrack is first class.

Indeed.

Somewhat off-topic:

I recorded my favorite tracks from ChronoCROSS onto MiniDisc one night and went out with some friends. We went to get high on a beach, and I had the CC MD with me. When I blazed up and walked on the beach at night, the music made me feel like I was in the game...Absolutely the best time I ever got high, and I owe it all to ChronoCROSS.

Remind me to do that during WMC
