-- Question about safety
Question about safety
I've heard from numerous people up here that there are some pretty bad areas in South Beach. I just wanna know what people who have been there before feel about their safety in SoBe. We're most likely gonna be staying on Collins ave or Ocean drive. The last thing I need is to have to worry about staying in an area where I can't even walk down the street.
Just lookin for some advice and information...
Thanks
I would say for the most part Sobe (Collins, Ocean, etc) is a pretty safe area however I wouldn't recommending walking too far from Club Space. The area near Space is mad sketchy!

SoBe is all tourists and is good area..
Downtown Miami is ghetto..
I usually step out of space, make a right, walk 2 blocks to bus stop and take it to SoBe without looking back..
If the bums in NYC dont scare me... the bums in FL wont either.
yeah i was advised by many ppl to not stay near downtown cuz its shady down there. its close to the parties n clubs...but thats the only good thing about it.

The only thing to worry about is Downtown. Is only Bums walking the surrounding area of Space asking for money ( scary looking peeps by the way ) .. but they are harmless heh.. though scary.
Having that homeless shelter blocks from Space probably does not help.
scary looking yes, actually having something to be scared of, probably not. i walked from space to my hotel last year (sherton) and it was like 12 blocks. for some reason we didnt take biscayne all the way down, we went like 2 blocks west and then headed south. yea it was a little creppy, but at no time did i feel unsafe. now it was at about 9:30 in the AM on a monday and that might have had something to do with it. that and im a pretty big guy myself and people dont usually go out of their way to start trouble with me.
id say you are safe on south beach, but if you want to feel comfortable. take a cab to and from space. have then drop you right at the front door, and if you must walk to find a cab when you get out of space dont walk any direction but east. that is taking a right when you get out of the club.

The only time I didn't feel safe was walking through the Reggae Festival a few years ago- remember rzo? LoL... Bums can be scary, but I don't think they usually attack people (they're not wild animals!) As in any big city, you just have to be aware of your surroundings

Watch out at the intersections around Space34, though
. Apparently, the blinking yellow and red lights are just decorations, so you can't be sure if someone will stop. Trust me, we've almost gotten squab-dobbled by the police station more than once. Some people straight up drive the wrong way, so watch out for the one-way's. The scariest person at Space is the 'Mo with the pink umbrella...WEIRD. If you haven't seen it, cheers to you then.

F-R-E-A-K!
And oohhh watch out with the Hoe Bum with Scoobie Doo giving hughs and talking to Scoobie Doo.. looks like Space crowd sort of gives away some of the crack consumed during the House Parties
