Any tips on making killer FXs?

Is there any vst or something? Or it's done with vst synths...

where can I get this filter from?

You have to buy it. Antares products are great...I have a few of them and even though they're expensive, are highly worth it.

with Triange 2 (free), you can do some things with white noise.

mate you can make killer FX with pretty much any virtual analogue synth. especially ones like vanguard which have specific waveforms (noise, white noise, pink noise, r2d2) which seem to specifically for this purpose. set up your filter envelopes, your cutoff and resonance. a bit of distortion on the amp section. set the oscillator to one of the aforementioned noisy waveforms then modulate the oscillator pitch on the lfo for some crazy crazy effects. then gate it or arp it to make it even crazier.

You can do some cool things with common effects on white noise like delay, reverb, flanger and stuff. NitroPSP is also cool.

yea. or you can take any conventional synth sound and run it through a phaser to warp it into something totally alien.

try these freeware synths:
EVM synths
Crystal
KlangLabs freebies
GTG synths

also, m42 nebula is great for spacy atmospheric sounds (there is a preset with the exact sound astral projection used for their last album).

if that is not enough, you can use some vst plugins like anything from ohmboys (www.ohmboys.com i think) or use the weird freeware plugs like the ones from tobybear (www.tobybear.de).

huh? everything i mentioned, except m42 nebula and quad frohmage, is freeware. quad frohmage is 150 euro (less than antares) and m42 nebula is only 50 euro.

I didn't mean that. I just keep "don't buy music software until you sell it" in mind.

vanguard really helps
