America(2005) vs Rome (when they were big)

Who would win in a war? America or Rome?
Rome had Julius Caesar, who was the worlds greatest swordsman. But America has a really good navy.

Posted by bas on Jan-25-2005 07:32:

yeah a navy, not to mention guns, and even if we didn't use guns im sure we could get bigger swords

Posted by Nautilus on Jan-25-2005 07:33:

Hmm. America does have an ominous arsenal of nuclear weapons. But the Romans have balls wearing dress-like clothes to the battle field. Romans!

Parthia

Well considering the two countries had never heard of each other at the point in time, how could this ever happen And why would you compare a old world empire to a new world empire which is more technologically advance, its not like poor rome would have a chance.

well if Julius was the world's best sworsman, he sure got his ass kicked.

Asterix & Obelix would win

wtf is this? are we really talking 20first century weapons vs Swords and bow?

1 american with enough bullets could take out a large chunk of the army. If they were on even footing (using the same weapons), I would go with Rome. They had more discipline back then.

They wouldn't win - they would manage to keep their village safe both from Romans and Americans.

hmm, rome, i believe, conquered 90% of the "known world". america has much less than that. most of rome's army were foreignors.

and remember, it took rome a very long time to stop sparticus the gladiator during the slave rebellion, and they never stopped hannibal. and this was in the rome's home turf. america on the other hand, has fought its modern wars all outside its domestic land.

unfair response

Roman Empire was an Empire. They conquered countries and kept them.

America is a country, they invaded two countries they thought were threats, but don't plan to stay.

And it doesn't matter, the Visigoths sacked Rome anyways in the end.

Maybe modern day Swedes and Fins will conquer America?

Wed win because unlike ceasar we were able to protect ourselves from our backstabbing shit little "friends" that would all be under the German flag singing "Das Lied der Deutschen" if it werent for us.

Posted by digitalbreach on Jan-25-2005 18:26:

Much like Rome I think America is headed for internal collapse.

out of all our snipers, smart bombs, and nukes poor ceasar should fear our navy

this is a good question - think about it... while the navy is working on aiming their guns caesar could be sneaking on board slitting everyones throats while their backs are turned...

or while they sleep... he wouldnt even need any fancy stealth gear, just give him a stick of deoderant and there goes the navy

what i meant was rome contained a much higher percentage of the known world under their permanent rule. while america, the country itself and its possessions are about 5% i believe. and the known world is much much bigger than it was in roman times.

"and remember, it took rome a very long time to stop sparticus the gladiator during the slave rebellion, and they never stopped hannibal. and this was in the rome's home turf. america on the other hand, has fought its modern wars all outside its domestic land."

i made this statement basically to come to the conclusion that if both rome and america squared off according to each ones technological status during their time, america would win.

America wouldn't stand a chance against Caesar's ninjas. And if the ninjas somehow failed, Russel crowe certainly wouldn't.
