Turner: Fox’s Popularity Like Hitler’s

I've never been a big fan of Ted Turner, but after reading this today I think I'm beginning to warm up to the guy. LOL

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Turner: Fox’s Popularity Like Hitler’s

CNN founder Ted Turner is continuing his verbal war against the Fox News Channel and its billionaire owner, Rupert Murdoch, this time comparing the country's most popular news network to Hitler's Third Reich.

According to industry magazine Broadcasting & Cable, Turner also blasted Fox News as little more than a propaganda tool of the Bush White House.

Turner, in speaking to the National Association for Television Programming Executives' conference for the first time since being tossed out of Time Warner Inc. in 2000, acknowledged Fox's larger market presence.

But, he said, bigger isn't better, and he quipped that Adolf Hitler also "got the most votes when he was elected to run Germany prior to WWII," B & C reported.

And while "there's nothing wrong" with Fox News being a shill for the Bush administration, Turner continued, "it does pose problems for our democracy. Particularly when the news is dumbed down."

It isn't the first time Turner has slammed his former chief media rival and News Corp. owner Murdoch, whose American-held news properties include the New York Post. And it isn't the first time Turner has compared Murdoch to Hitler.

In 1996, USA Today reported in its "Year in Review" segment, "At a Time Warner shareholder meeting ... in response to a question, [Turner] said he was indeed sorry he'd compared competitor Rupert Murdoch to Adolf Hitler."

"Yes. I should have said he's a disgrace to journalism," Turner said, smiling. "But an Australian disgrace to journalism."

Other jabs followed, but in April 2003, following a speech Turner gave to the Commonwealth Club in San Francisco, he labeled Murdoch "a warmonger," claiming the News Corp. billionaire "promoted" the war in Iraq.

Regarding the war, Turner bemoaned: "We've spent 200 billion destroying Iraq. Now we've got to spend 200 billion to rebuild it, if they'll let us – and all to find a nut in a fox hole – one guy. ... He posed no threat to any of his neighbors, particularly with us there with overwhelming military superiority. ... [I]t is obscene and stupid."

If he has any better ideas, why doesn’t he run for president himself? Turner tackled that subject by saying: "I'm too old and too burned out to take on that responsibility. I thought about it when I was younger. I don't know if I could have gotten elected or not. It would have been a lot of fun to do when I had higher energy levels."

It’s possible that Turner is just upset he's no longer a true "rival" of Murdoch, since the latter is still in the news business and the former hasn't been in control of the network he founded for years.

He won’t criticize CNN much, though. "I have a responsibility not to be too critical of my old company,” he said. "It is a good company and I had a lot of experiences there. A lot of time things that are painful at the time they occurred turn out to be for the best."

He also has a lot of stock in the company, and doesn’t want its value to go down – how then would he come up with the money for his huge U.N. pledges?

Perhaps that's much of the reason why we've never fully been able to achieve it.

It's not profitable.

Love that FOX!

A FOXNEWS spokesperson responded: "Ted is understandably bitter having lost his ratings, his network and now his mind -- we wish him well."

thats ok FoxNews has Geraldo and Oliver North... if thats not bad I don't know what is. I believe one of the joint chiefs called North "The biggest embarrassment to the United States Military in its History". As for Geraldo... lol... I don't need to say much except that the guy has proven to be a huge buffoon time and time again. Oh yeah and lets not forget O'Reilly... lol... what a clown.

O'Reilly and Hannity should both be shot for their blatant disinformaton & lies. The funniest thing is O'Reilly wont even admit he's a conservative, though he preaches the Bush talking points on everything except immigration, because he's so conservative he literally wants the military lining the Mexican boarder. Plus he's the most egotistical blowhard on the planet.

Hannity is such a mindless zombie he can't even make an argument. He spends his entire show quoting what one extreme person on the left said and keeps asking Ann Coulter why all Democrats think that way. I really love how he came on Al Franken's show at the DNC and admitted he was wrong about claiming Howard Dean was "advancing the theory that Bush knew about 9/11 ahead of time" and John Kerry said he personally burned down villages in Vietnam and then started telling those exact same lies the next day on his show.

I want to fight them both to the death!!! And then I will move on to the upcoming MSNBC "fair & balanced" duo of Scarborough & Tucker Carlson.

Fair & Balanced means Bill O'Reilly,Sean Hannity,Brit Hume, Carl Cameron, Oliver North, John Kasich, Geraldo Rivera, Laurie Dhue, Fred Barnes, Bill Kristol, Cal Thomas, Shepard Smith, Dari Alexander, Neil Cavuto, Newt Gingrich, Andrew Napolitano, Chris Wallace, Stuart Varney,Linda Vester, Tony Snow, Brian Kilmeade & John Gibson = Alan Colmes & Neil Gabler

Sorry for the rant, but I hate these people, they're the morons who wont admit they're a conservative media outlet and brought near 40% of people to still think at the time of the election that Iraq was connected to 9/11.

EDIT: Sorry, I forgot that there is a new Democrat on Fox...Zell Miller:

Little known tid-bit:

Turner helped create Foxnews.

When Mr. Turner sold CNN to Time Warner the FTC required Time Warner cable to give a future competing 24 hour cable news service access to Time Warner's cable network if the merger were to go through. That future competing 24 hour cable news service would be - Fox News.

Till 2000/2001 Turner sat as the board (and still is the largest shareholder) of AOL Timewarner. However despite being the most prominent board member he had tied his own hands behind his back in his ability to prevent a competitor to CNN.

What ensured was the rapid decline of CNN as the cable news leader to the new competitor Fox News which rose to number one almost overnight.

Tunner has had a long infamous gruge against Murdoch, he doesn't seem to be letting up.

Rugby...isn't that the sport where you run around without pads bashing your brain into oblivion? Or is that the one where everyone huddles up in a circle to see how far up eachother's arses they can get their heads?

Kind of like football without pads, no downs and you can't pass it forward. I think the latter description you gave is called a Bush cabinet meeting.

Ted Turner looks like Hitler. Take that Teddy! Not to mention being the ex-husband of Hanoi Jane Fonda. Not the guy I'll listen to on this sort of thing.

And speaking of Jane Fonda, Fox News repeatedly showed doctored photos of John Kerry supposedly standing near her at anti-war rallies during Vietnam, in addition to claiming the upside flag on the cover of a book Kerry had written meant he was anti-American, when it really alludes to a military distress call.

CNN isn't a good network either though, there's very little adequate media in the U.S. Actually reporting news and holding politicians from both sides accountable for their actions has been replaced with partisan talking points. I've noticed a lot more newspapers articles quote what politicians said on Meet the Press or Fox News Sunday. I guess watching someone else do the interview on T.V. is a lot easier than asking your own tough questions, though it's bad for democracy.

Or worse, simply ignoring news of substance, replacing real news with tabloid sensationalism like Harry wearing a Nazi armband to a "distasteful costume party"...

Or like CNN was called before 9/11, the Gary Condit Channel. Or FoxNew's insistance on covering the tragic but overwhelmingly irrelevant Scott Peterson trial.

And my recent favorite, all news channels diverting energy to the Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston separation. Possibly the most un-newsworthy story so far in 2005.

yeah, really - something so insubstantial, like for a "face of UK" to be wearing a swastica.. pft! we should all be wearing swasticas, speaking german and lining our cats' litterboxes with Jews' ashes.

who really cares about something so silly, ahahahahah! swastica!!!

Hey, a question for you: Do you guys have like home/away hoods? Like if you are in NY and you're at home and you wanna go and march with signs "kill kikes" - do you wear a white robe and hood (home uniform) or black robe and hood (away uniform). The reason I'm asking - is KKK home where you are or where it originated?

Please answer when you have a free moment away from your regular KKK activities.

Thanks - much appreciated.

Wow you are a fucking moron... way to go... First rule in showing intelligence, NEVER assume anything about people you don't know. It shows a lack of ability in forming a substantive argument. Second, never assume that what the person is saying extends to something clearly not mentioned anywhere in the meat of their argument. Third, grow some pubes, get an education, and shut the fuck up you jackass...

How true! I work for a fortune 500 company, making 6 figures. You, on the other hand have shown in a number of posts your true views. Which leads me to believe you're probably flipping burgers during the day and fluffing in the alleys of the Bronx at night for a cup of coffe.

Is it ok to assume that if you post something derogatory in one thread, and a derivative of your "main agenda" in another - it presents your general views? Yeah, I guess so... you must be a closet case hater, then.

I'm actually quite hirsute - just ask your sister, she was gagging up hairballs all day yesterday.

And it's Mr. Jackass to you!

Jackass...

You work for a Fortune 500 company making 6 figures... yet you have the gall to come on here and call everyone an anti-semite b/c they dislike the policies of the Isreali government. Not only do you lack perspective but you lack the ability to make any sort of coherent or correct analysis which leads me to believe that you are a complete and utter liar.

As for making assumptions, you are basing that assumption on what? A post about Ariel Sharon. Name one other post I have EVER made to reflects anti-semitism. Nothing I have said reflects anti-semitism. You decided to make that assumption like an idiot.

Then you go into a 5 year old tantrum making fun of a nonexistent sister. Congratulations you showed a ton of maturity for someone who claims to make 6 figures at a Fortune 500 company, something I highly doubt. Seeing as how I come from a society of wealthy people I have yet to meet someone from their as utterly ignorant and repulsively idiotic. To make further highlight of such matters I would happily pull up all of the posts I have read this week where you demonstrate your lack of ability in reading, comprehension and analysis. Something you would need in a Fortune 500 company, infact something you would need to get through college. Nice try homey, you can fool the excluded, but not the included. If you would like to continue with your incomprehensible rant I suggest talking to a mirror.

My mantra is "Never argue with an idiot - he will only drag you down to his level, and there beat you with experience".

I don't come from a society of wealthy people - my folks had to work for a living, not mooch off of mommy and daddy. Me included.

Oh, and it must really piss you off to know that you busted your ass (did you really or did your parents buy you a degree?) in GWU and have a tuition bill (oops, sorry - your folks have a tuition bill) higher than a debt of some 3rd world country - and this uneducated fool is doing better than you. (I wrote this run-on sentence with as many punctuation and grammatical errors as possible - just to piss you, blueblood, off).

I'm off to talk to the mirror - as it seems to be the only good looking face around here.

btw, good job on dragging me to your level! Great, now I hate myself for it.

Have fun talking to the mirror, at least it won't inform you of how utterly retarded and hypocritical you are...

Its a lonely world for ya aint it? I almost feel bad for you...
