Daft Punk - Human After All >> REVIEW! <<

Well then, I just finished listening to Human After All. No, I won't tell you where I got it or give it to you. TA does not support sharing, blah blah. If you look hard enough you will find it.

The irony is, as Ishkur already pointed out: this is their most unhuman sounding album. Pure robot electro funk. A pretty far cry from Homework and absolutely nothing like Discovery. They're going to burn a lot of bridges with this album, particularly with the mainstream who loved One More Time and Around the World.

But do I like it? Hell yes I do. It's definately different but it's definately cool. They could have easily done another Homework or Discovery sounding album and pleased most everyone, but instead they've done something else. Props to them for experimenting, I say. And the experiments are mostly right on target.

I won't get totally in depth with each track, but I'll give you a general idea. The first four tracks are pure robot electro fuck rock. Vocorders and filtered guitars and trademark DP compressed drumkicks. They rock. Make Love is a laidback, groovy track laced with a nice piano. A lot closer to the old DP sound. The Brainwasher is fucking mental, that's all that needs to be said. On/Off is just a 20 second interlude. Television Rules the Nation sort of makes me think Da Funk, except with a more laidback riff, played with guitars. Technologic will make you go "wtf??" the first time you hear it, but it grows on you. Emotion is a nice laidback end.



All in all, I consider my face thoroughly rocked. I listened to this album with an open mind, and the knowledge that it wasn't going to be typical Daft Punk, and it was quite satisfying. As much as I love Homework and Discovery and would like to see them make another album in their typical french house style, I'm glad that they've tried something new and unique. They pulled it off, IMHO.

My only disappointment is that it's too short. About 45 minutes total. I wouldn't mind so much if it hadn't been 5 damn years since Discovery. I know that both Thomas and Guy-Manuel can sequence in their sleep with one hand tied behind their backs, so I don't see why it has to take so long. Quality over quantity, I suppose... but I still need more Daft Punk!

By the way, the copy of Human After All (the single) that you grabbed of Ishkur is not actually Human After All. The real one is a lot different (and a lot cooler, imo). Robot Rock is real, however, but it's longer on the album.

My first impression is that it is not as good as the last album.

Most of the songs are bascially slow paced electro with a Daft Punk touch. It doesn't mean its bad, but my first impression of the last album was better. It sounds more laid back, almost like a movie soundtrack/score.

There is definantly a lot less 'catchiness' than their previous work. 'technologic' is probably the most creative/interesting piece on the album, it has a cool use of vocals. Nothing else really stands out.

So,bascially my first impression is lukewarm. I think I'm gonna enjoy the Chem Bros album more (but it might just come down to taste).

This album needs time, lots of time. Daft Punk has gotten in touch of their roots from
their first album and moved away from that poppish sound they had with Discovery.
However, it needs time. You get that acid feeling and that really strong ROCK feeling
but atleast i find it hard to adapt at times, so, give it time.

I like technologic the best so far and this album will be a sure buy when it comes out
on vinyl, just like the other Daft Punk albums.

This album was a disappointment to me. Not because it sucks, but because it isn't very good compared to discovery or homework. Human after All is my favorite track and robot rock is also nice. Those two tracks were the best on the album by far. The rest were some of the worst I've heard from daft punk. As for technologic, man, LAME. Im sorry but the voice sounds stupid as hell? Im serious, that song is ANNOYING. Also, theirs no plans for an elite anime for this album. Not that they could, seeing how the entire album is like, 2 minutes long and one of the tracks is just 19 seconds. I wish I could say their was something really catchy in this album that I have stuck in my head right now, but I cant. Lets hope they return to a discovery/homework type album and that they dont take five years to do it.

i think this album is crap it got boring very quick and every single song is so damn repetitive i dont see why people like this stuff

I hated Around the World and One More Time, but loved Da Funk. Will I like this album?

According to Ishkur yes. I haven't heard the album yet so I can't say myself where this album lies compared to the first two.

The version reviewed might be a leaked/unfinished copy as well.

You have to wait until you have a copy of the retail version before you can make a final decision on the quality of the album.

it would have benifited the daft guys to not even release this shit. Its the worst thing i have ever heard. After hearing this i would rather go out and buy a DJ Alligator Project cd. Its the most boring repatitive bullshit i have ever listend too. I am no longer a daft punk fan. thank you.

This actually a lot less mainstream than Discovery.

Ok, i dont know now. I was hateing it earlyer, but I have listened to the album like 40 times now and guess what... It kind of grows on you. Granted its not the best thing ever but I have come to appriciate it. Maybe i am just easily amused but its not as horrible as I first thought. Give the daft guys another shot, I guess is all im trying to say.

Well, I've heard it, and its alright.

Not really, just a few songs actually.

But I'll tell you that if they weren't daft punk, nobody would think anything of this album.
