Midi Volume Fade In/Out Question

I've been using Cubase SL 2.0 for about a month now and I cannot work out how to fade in (volume wise) a midi track. Say you have a melody and you want to fade it in over 8 bars. How do you do this?

1. Open your VSTi and activate the "w" (=write) button.

2. Play your track and make the fade-in you like with the volume knob. All changes will be recorded now.

3. Stop playing and deactivate the "w" button and activate "r" (=read). If you play your track again the sound should fade in.

4. Activate "show all automation" in the "project" menu. Now you will see a track below that shows the automation you recorded. You can edit it as you like.

This works for all knob-changes you do (try cutoff for example). I use SX 2 but it will work in SL too I think.

An alternative is to draw the lines you want directly into the vsti-track without recording anything. Make sure that the track is routed to volume. But don't forget to activate the "r"-button (if you activate it before drawing you don't even need to take the pencil-tool, you can draw with the normal mouse-arrow).

Read the manual, man

In the track of your vsti there is a field where you can choose all possible functions of your vsti. In that list you will find "volume" too.

Its also possible to automate the volume of the according mixer-track (and not of the vsti itself). You find that mixer-track under the vsti-track. Same procedure as above ;-)

Yeah I already knew this. I just didn't know the term you used ("routing"). Thanks anyway though.
