I am making a trance mix for my new girlfriend who claims that she "hates" trance. But I think she just hasn't heard very much good trance, yet. We are both ravers, but most of the local "Trance" DJs here (in Victoria, BC, Canada) spin "Progressive House/Trance", which understandably can be somewhat boring for someone who doesn't understand "Progressive" music. She tells me that currently she enjoys Funky/Dicso House, 2-Step (UK Garage), Speed Garage, Breaks and Drum and Bass at parties. Outside of parties she listens to mostly RnB and Top 40s Pop/Rock. She also says she really likes music with vocals she can sign along to.

Here's a list of some of the songs that I will tentatively select from... Are there any other tracks that you think I should add? or tracks that I should drop?

Some other tracks I considered using include "mario piu aka dj arabesque - the vision" and "southside spinners - luvstruck". But they're just so damn cheesy, but maybe that's good for a newcomer. What do you think?

If I have time, and I can figure it out, I would like to pseudo-"mix" these tracks into a set using an audio editing program like Cool Edit or Soundforge since I'm no DJ, so actually beatmatching them (with say PCDJ or VTT) would be too time consuming.

What order do you think I should put the tracks in? I was thinking of starting with Robert Miles - Children, and ending with Heaven Scent and Wizards of the Sonic. Also, Conductor & Cowboy - Feeling This Way into BT - Dreaming sounds like it might make a GREAT mix.

Any Comments?

I second that. The Chicane - Salrwater video once avaliable @ TA was one of the first trance tunes wich caught me up. Another nice track I remember of enjoying since the begginning is Binary Finare (Kay Cee Remix) and the PvD - For An Angel (PvD VDT mix).

I have sucessfully converted my girlfriend to eletronic music some months ago, with a tape full of Bjork remixes, later on I've introduced her to a big Underworld mix and right now I am brainwashing her with small drops of carefully selected trance

Also, if you like the idea, spend some time finding good intrumental music out there for you two to listen, not necessarely trance. Thais way you can help her move (if she wants, of course) from the I-like-vocals-wich-I-can-sing-along/mtv-top-40 behaviour).

For people who "hate" trance, you need to throw in some commercial shit like Sandstorm, Better off alone, 9pm till i come....etc, just to hoook them with catchy shit, THEN introdce the real trance music

The remix of Universal Nation you're looking for is probably the Ferry Corsten remix, that's the one with the huge explosion in the middle of the track. One of the best tracks of all time.

I was playing it one day in my car while i was sitting in a parking lot waiting to pick up my brother, and I looked behind me and he was dancing his ass off. It was really funny, I gave him the name of the cd it was on(think i was playing trance nation 2001 when that happened, don't remember)

I just recently converted a girlfriend of mine by having her listen to Solid Sessions � Janeiro (Pronti and Kalmani vocal mix) and here are some other songs that I used to convert my other female friends (in order to convert my male friends, I use a whole different strategy..hahaha)
