Garnier cancles US tour

quote:
I am very sorry to have to cancel my forthcoming U.S. tour due to what I
consider to be completely unreasonable demands by the U.S. Embassy in
France in order to renew my
work visa.

In order to obtain this new visa, the rules have once again changed since
November 2004 and I would now have to not only fill out an exceedingly
probing application form, but also be interviewed by a member of the
Embassy staff, and provide proof of ownership of my house, details of my
bank account, my mobile phone records, personal information on all my
family members and more. I consider these demands to be a complete
violation of my privacy and my civil liberties and I refuse to comply.

I am horrified by these new regulations and feel really sad that this is
what some call freedom and democracy.

It has now become almost impossible for an artist to come and perform in
the United States. And until this new proceedure changes I will
unfortunately refuse to comply with this nonsense.

Thank you for your understanding.

Laurent Garnier

phone records? bit OTT

That's too bad. Would love to see him. But those Frenchies deserve to get some shit after not having our back on anything.

Makes me laugh how the USA is 'fighting for freedom' yet their own people have none anyway. Wankers

Okay. True. Within the last century. I was really joking anyway. The stereotypical American attitude. Then I could have said, "If it weren't for us, they'd be speaking German right now."

that terrorist.

Posted by idoru on Jan-28-2005 00:21:

Ouch, that sucks.

And for the record, just because a bunch of power-hungry maniacs put those laws into place, doesn't mean the rest of the country agrees with it.

if you're talking about recent non support, I believe they were 100% justified, weren't they?

Seems a shame that a country has been reduced to such paranoia, terrorist attacks have happened long before americans problems, other coutries arnt half as strict.

Hehe.

We reserve the freedom to keep other people out!

Muwahaha.

Besides, he should stop whining and just go to Canada instead (my homeland); their regulations are more lax. And Montreal and Que City are great venues for trance music. They have some nice clubs.

Posted by swisstoni_uk on Jan-28-2005 14:39:

could it be thats hes French? maybe someone in the US Government (probably some petty desk clerk) has got a grudge against the French , then again maybe its because he wants to gain a Work Permit, and not just ordinary tourist access, so thats the problem. As the 911 hijackers were known to be working in the US wernt they?. its all still silly though
